do you drive your lancer like a punk and keep the RPMs over 3.5k? and does your dad drive like an old man and keep his RPMs around 1.5k? if so, that may be why they are the same? my average is about 23mpg and im always damn near red lining

When I got the car it was 17-19 now it is closer to 23-24 and I have even had a couple trips in the high 20s.

I just got back from a 1200 mi trip. First I'd like to say damn this car made the trip very good and simple. Soooo nice.

Anywho, when I left I had 700 miles on the car. Average fuel economy was 31 city and 28 highway. Meh. After taking the freeway drives and really getting to break the engine in well on my way home this is what I pulled: 404 miles; mix of town, freeway and mountain pass. I averaged 34.7 mpg on this last 400 mile leg and am completely satisfied with things as they are now.

Also now that I have about 2300 miles on the car, I've noticed something. It revs easier. Has a little more juice. And good god I just can't get over the awesome handling!

Had my GTS for 2 weeks now. Just filled up the tank for the second time today. First tank I averaged 10.5L/100Km (485Km). Second tank I got 10.35L/100Km (493Km). This is mostly city driving...I'm heading on a road trip next week, so I'll find out more what I get on the long trips. On a side note, I did manage to get my computer to say I was getting 6.2 when I was granny driving it home from work one day.

No matter how hard I drive the car, or how easy I am on it, by the end of a full tank of 93 octane Shell V-Power Gas, I've reached over 400 miles and averaged anywhere between 30 and 34 mpg... That is much, much better than I thought I'd get, but with the new ratings most people will notice that they will do better than what the rating states...

why are u putting such high octane fuel in your car.

That kind of fuel may ignite to early. messing up your timing.
always fuel up on recommended octane?

I've used that gas in every car I've ever owned and have noticed improved gas mileage and increased responsiveness... Can it really cause a timing problem? If so, I had no clue...

Always use recommended octane fuel. Lower octane can cause preignition of the mixture, also known as "detonation." Now I don't fully know about this engine yet, but there's this nasty little demon called "KNOCK RETARD" and it is the worst thing for (most) engines. Basically the computer retards the timing in order to compensate for the poorly igniting fuel. This can cause massive nasty effects, especially in the long run. KR is the devil.

On the same hand, higher octane can have similar effects. With higher octane, optimal compression may not be reached for the fuel mixture to burn properly or completely. Unburnt mixture inside your engine can be just as detrimental to the life of the engine as KR.

The engines are tested for a long time to find what types of fuel work best. If the book says use 87 octane, then that's what is optimal for the engine. Use that.

[until you put a turbo or super on the car, then you'll need to up the octane to compensate for the added volume]

May I recommend Chevron with Techron, I noticed a big difference in consumption and responsiveness. Also all ocatane levels come with Techron.

Hey maybe im just imagining things and the techron is just BS
