GTS - acceleration problems
GTS - acceleration problems
So I was driving home from Pittsburgh last night. Everything was fine, cruising along with the radio blaring & AC on. Suddenly the cruise control cuts off, the service engine soon light comes on, and the car won't accelerate. It'll do maybe 2000 RPM max on a flat/upward incline, although you can coast downhill fine. Took it in to the dealer this morning.
Anyone seen a similar problem? Considering it's 1 PM and I dropped the car off at 8:30, I'm getting the impression the service guys aren't sure what the problem is either.
The car is 4 months old and has only 5500 miles on it, it seems ridiculous for a car this new to have a problem this serious.

Sounds like LIMP mode. There's a thread or two about this already. Not a common problem, but a couple of folks have experienced it. No known cure yet.
EDIT - seems to relate to this guy's issue.

I had to get a loaner from the dealer for this evening, they're having to call in the technical experts (from Mitsubishi?). What little they did tell me is that the codes the mechanic was getting were saying multiple problems with the throttle body.
bringing back a dead post, but what did they do to fix it, did they just replace your throttle body. I had this happen today in my 09, the dealer has it and says they are going to get to it first thing in the morning.
thanks

nope.
There was a piece of aluminum between the throttle boddy and intake manifold. Apparently when I was working on installing the intake, it worked it self around and caused there to be a vacuum leak right there. The MAF ofcourse was reading one thing but the engine was seeing another. Kicked off a bunch of CEL's. Got the piece out and the checked the gasket right there and no more problems. Stupid thing from the factory and all fixed now. Has nothign to do with the CVT at all, except for the fact that with the automatic the computer can have much more control over you in limp mode
