lol ok it works the same as your trunk release. You pull the lever, which is attached to a line/cable, attached to the gas door. If the line is broken, or detached from the lever, you won't be able to pry the door open with someone holding the lever up. You'll have to find out how to get to that cable, and find out how up pops the door open. There's no emergency one in the trunk, unless they hide it really well. Good luck with it. If you have enough gas lol, go to mitsu, that should be something they fix for free or cheap, cause I doubt you have any warranty left on an 02.

I would ask a friend, to pull the handle and you try to open it... if this dosnt help, trace the line and see if its broken, i doubt.

I wouldnt.

It would save you a lot of gas if you checked the line. Anyone that can pull can get to it so its a job for a master mechanic. The line runs along the drivers side door sill.

The pin still pulls away, but the door won't pop open. If I pull the lever inside the door doesn't swing open, but my buddy was able to open the door with his hand when I pulled the lever without forcing. So it's somethin that forces the gas door open that's messed up

spring

The little spring on the hinge in broken or missing. Maybe a bit of WD-40 will do the trick.

On my Civic, I had to manually bend the latch on the gas door side a bit...

I paid 2$ or 3$ CAD for this little spring at the dealer... It's not so bad. (When I break mine with the cord that hold the gaz cap to the boby.)
