HELP – 08 Muffler Removal

Hey everyone,

I remember seeing a thread/post on here about someone giving instructions on how to remove the stock 2008 Lancer Muffler.
I have been searching for it non-stop but I can’t find it!!!
It had info and images so if anyone can find it PLEASE link it here.
I finally have a nice day to work on my car and I want to get my WORKS AB installed!

Thanks in advance.

Remove the two bolts holding it to the rest of the exhaust. Pull off the rubber hangers holding it to the car. Catch falling muffler. Set aside.

Good enough? I don't have pics, but it seems pretty straight-forward to me.

Should we take bets on whether or not you have an exhaust leak after the install?

those bolts are ... crazy...

An easy way to remove those bolts is to use a wrench and then use a large long pipe on the other end. I ended up using one of those heavy duty pipe wrentch to remove that damn bolt.

ps: That bolt on the left side is attached to the muffler pipe itself so you won't need to hold 1 side and turn the other.

I can probably bet I have an exhaust leak

and just when you think your problems are solved when you take out the bolts....

Left bolt nut in that picture above. Not the spring side the other side where the nut goes is where the nut is attached to the pipe so you won't need to hold that side, only the spring side.

removal and installation is a piece of cake, you should be able to do it without much of a problem. Although I am a mechanic (semi-trucks although) I had no problem, the only hard part was getting it out of the hanger nearest the tip. Just a bit of lube and a pry bar and help from the mechanic in the other bay and voila...man that muffler isn't light.

what did you mean by use a wrench and then use a large pipe on the other end?
where are you putting the pipe?
