Question warranty voided if involved in an accident?

Hello Guys,

first of all ---- I'M F...NG PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I got involved in a small accident. (i'll post pics later)
It looks like the front bumper needs to be replaced.. but no big damages, to what I could see, was done to the car. although the lights look a little bit pushed in... but am not 100% sure...

anywasy.. my question is...

My insurance company asked me to take the car to one of their "certified" body shops....

will fixing the car there cause my warranty to be voided? will the warranty be voided on the whole car or just the parts they replaced?

any input is well appreciated....

thanks..

Let's hope not, cause otherwise we will all be without warranties in a few years, instead of 10.

When my back passenger wheel got messed up, my insurance company told me to take it to one of their certified shops and the insurance company would warranty the work (the shop charged ridiculous amounts and they charged the insurance company for parts they didn't need/ order like $200 for the "Lancer" logo and $500 for the Mitsubishi star on the trunk, and $2000 for paint, even though the only thing messed up was my wheel, and the same scratches that were on the car were there so I know they didn't paint it.).

When I noticed unusual tire wear on the front tires and the pulling to the left, my dealer said that Mitsubishi won't do anything and I need to go somewhere else to get my tires aligned. I took it back to the shop and they said the problem wasn't related to the work that they did so they won't fix it. So i had to take it to maaco and pay $ 800 out of pocket for new tires and a wheel alignment.

If Mitsubishi voided my warranty on an incident that small, im pretty sure that they will void yours. However, i think only problems related to my suspension are out of warranty, i should still have a warranty on other problems.

That'll be my next move... but I've read that insurance companies have the final say... if fixing the car is alot more expensive if done in a mitsubishi dealer they might not do it... and if they do I might need to pay the difference.... not sure about this though..

i think you may just have to pay the difference if the deductible is higher. Not really sure but I think that would be worth the question to your broker.

You have the right to fix the car wherever you want. You also have the right to fix the car with OEM parts.

Your warranty will not be voided.

I recommend you read your insurance policy and warranty.

to make a long answer short.

If you have a valid warranty before an accident. So long as your insurance company promises to fix it, (via a certified shop) then your warranty in theory becomes also the responsibility of the insurance company. Their policy is to restore your car to 100% and ensure the repairs meet the OEM spec. if it doesnt and Mitsu says no, then you go back to your insurance company. 99% sure your insurance company will fix it if you present a strong enough case. Here is the reason, if you get your dealer to put it in writing that the failure was caused by bad bodyshop / mechanical repair. lol you take the insurance company to court. But when in doubt, sue both. Eventually both companies will just comprimise and swallow a shared cost of repair.

I wouldnt worry.

if you have problems, I will so them for you
