Idle issues... Occurs about 4 days out of the week.

Hey guys I'm having a strange idle issue that seems to happen about 4 days a week. Since it doesn't happen everyday I don't think its a vacuum leak.

When I'm not having any issues normal Idle is about ~650rpm w/o AC... ~700rpm w/ AC.

The Issue:

Now.. No AC idle becomes ~1000rpm.. ~1100rpm w/AC...

not only that but as the compressor cycles off my rpms shoot to 2000 then fall to 1000 then when the compressor kicks back on they bump to 1100 and the whole process starts over...

It hasn't become a big concern its just very annoying since the compressor cycles so often my car is going back and forth between 1100 and 2000 RPM several times during a red light..

My car is an 04 OZ 5spd with 71K miles.. I have an extended bumper to bumper warranty but it has a $100 deductible, so if this is something thats going to cost more than $100 I will just bring it in but I would still like to figure out the cause of the problem so I can tell when I bring it in.

Thanks for the help! It's a strange thing to explain so if you need me to clarify let me know!

-Ian

edit: I read the thread ambystom01 posted a while ago and it seems similar to my problem but I don't think its exactly like mine...

Check this out.

Also, since you're around 70k, you may also want to check your timing belt. It needs to be inspected, possibly replaced.

With the mileage you have it probably wouldn't hurt to run some Seafoam, MAF cleaner, TB cleaner through your car. My car run practically brand new after giving it a thorough scrubbing.

I believe most of this stuff should be covered by your 60k service check.

^^^ Thanks! I must have overlooked that thread. I will check everything out, I did consider the TB as I cleaned this back when I had my Maxima and it smoothed my idle a lot! I have always been scared to run seafoam haha but so many people have had good results with it I guess its time to try.

I actually have some MAF cleaner in the garage, so do I just spray the sensor and then let it dry? I only ask because the Nissan sensors were pretty weak and broke often so I never sprayed my MAF.

As far as the timing belt I had it replaced when I bought the car with 57K and I also have the car's life service records (from the previous owner) and it has been very well maintained so as far as fluids and belts it has all been take care of.

Thanks

Yeah, you just pull the MAF out and spray it down a few times to clean any dirt and grime off.
