pressure plate or release bearing problems? not if it is new though, unless you try to break it, dropping the clutch

If you hear noise when you have the car in neutral with the clutch released, check your fluid level first, that is usually the tell tale sign that you have a blown seal and all the fluit leaked out. But with the car being so new, that is VERY strange....could it be the 70 shot? It could be the throwout bearing, do you sit at stoplights with the clutch in for long periods? Or do a lot of power shifting? Best bet - take it to the dealership and pretend you know nothing!!!

Alright heres the deal... i went to mitsubishi this morning and dropped my car off. I described the chattering clinking sound to them. They said that they would gimme a call in a few hours. 2 1/2 Hours later they called and were all "Yes we've tested your Lancer and hooked it up to the computer and everything seems to be just fine and running normal." I was like no way dood your kidding. So I went back there to check it out. We started the car up and i heard it... the technician didn't really hear anything until i gave it a small rev up to 1.5 grand. Shoulda seen his eyes? Right after that they took that thing right back in the garage and got down to buisness. So now I'm driving a nice Plymouth Neon compliments of mitsubishi... this thing is crap... who buys neons? anyhow... i'm not paying for it and i'm still going places... so i won't complain. I'm just waiting now for that phone call "Sir you car has been fixed and ready to go." we'll see...

Hello pplz. The noise you describe is definitely the throwout bearing inside the tranny. I've had 3 Mirages, and all have suffered the same problem, 2 of them almost since new, so its not strange Mitsu hasnt fixed the problem yet. Your warranty should cover it. I'm taking mine next week to have it changed, since my warranty is about to expire (56,700 miles)
