Jacking my car to find noise cause damage?

Would it be safe to jack the front of my car and accerate to say 65 km/h, put in cruise and try and locate a noise? Or will this damage the car?

I see there is a sticky for noises from our cars, but this doesn't seem to be a normal noise from a "15 thousand dollar econobox."

It is a somewhat loud high pitched wine coming from my car when cruising above 60 km/h in fourth or 5th gear.

If I am giving it gas to accelerate it is not there, but when holding the gas to maintain my speed, at say 80 km/h it is whining almost whistling away.

If I tap the gas slightly several times I can make it whine not whine, whine not whine. Does not sound good at all and is really annoying.

It does not do this when reving while not moving.

It does it with or without air on.

The weather has an affect. If it is cold it is louder, but when hot I can still hear it.

I'm afraid my throw out bearing is going, my timing belt is about to explode or something worse.

Could be my belts?

It is only related to on and off load.

Would it be safe to jack the front of my car and accerate to say 65 km/h, put in cruise, and try to locate the noise. Or will this damage the car?

Any help.

If you're MT, and accelerating in a higher gear, the belts will squeel.

Edit: Don't jack the car and run it that's...not a good idea ha ha

A mechanic I went to wanted to do this.
I thought it was a bad idea. And declined. I thought I would get everyones opinion first.

I know it can be dangerous but if set up correctly it shouldn't be a problem if it will not cause damage to any bearings etc.

Plus I have access to a lift.

The car is whistling/humming/whinning all the damn time and it is driving me crazy. I can only hear the noise while driving, what to do to locate and fix?

It is not squeeling / whinning while accelerating, it is while cruising and maintaining speed.

That's a stupid idea, why even ask?

Maybe the noise is coming from your tires. Mine make a constant humming noise

Not the tires, it has to be a bearing or tranny problem or something else.

So if its a stupid idea, which I agree, as I declined when the mechanic wanted to to do this, what is the "SMART" way to fix this problem.

Well, if it's not making noise with just the engine running IE put it in neutral and revving the engine, the logical conclusion would be it's something in the drivetrain or suspension. Why doesn't the mechanic drive the car and figure it out?

At worse case scenario, see if a dyno shop would let you use their dyno for an hour for diagnostic purposes. That way you could safely get up to speed and have the mechanic check. You really dont want to run the car with the front jacked up.

you do know when a mechanic wants to do this. they put it on a lift. and raise up your car completely so they can look under the car.

this will not solve any suspension noise what so ever but you can be used to find bare wheel bearings, bent wheels and etc.
