Brake problem? What needs to be done?
I have been hearing a noise coming from the front of my car for awhile, and because I am away at school most of the time, it has been put off over and over again. Well now that I am home at break its time to get it off my To-Do List. There is no sound when I am idling or after I start my car. There is also no noise when I am driving. The only time I hear the noise is when I am slowing down and the brakes are applied. Hence, I believe it is a brake problem. Not sure what it could be, so that is where all the helpful people on this forum comes into play. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you
Hmmm let me see if I can describe it.... it is not a squealing, its not a grinding, it seems to hit at a certain point on the tire with the brakes. Its not like a constant noise as I am braking its a rhythmic noise and I am not sure which side it is coming from. It started happening after my two trips to Michigan (which for me is about 3 hours of expressway driving) lot of construction. So maybe loosened something? I will think about a better way to describe it, but thats the best I can do for now. Thanks again.
Depending on how your break or if you're not the first owner of the car, or if one of your wheels is just slightly warped, you could have either unevenly worn your brakes or your rotors, which could lead to sort of a subtle sound that goes with the rhythm of the tires spinning.
If you try taking your hands off the steering wheel for a second when your braking if it seems to shake/rattle in unison with the sound, that would be something to look into.

Theres no shaking when I take my hand off the wheel while I am braking, however I have noticed that I need new tires because of lack of tread. Supposedly I got new brake pads when I got the car before the noise I will look into the brake rotors and see where that takes me.
i've got the same problem. kinda like a knocking, rythmic sound that only makes a noise on the certain part of the tire? i thought it could be warn break pads but they would/should be squealing and it'd be obvious. i'm thinking it could be warped rotors? or maybe there's grime in the brake lines? possibly a flush could fix it?

Thats exactly what my brakes have been doing. I've replaced the pads, rotors, added a shim kit from mitsubishi, new anti-rattle clips and greased the floating bolts as well. Sometimes after greasing the bolts and back of the pads, it will go away for a few weeks, then it comes back. I'm pretty sure the noise is from the pads moving around, but at this point I don't know what else to do. What would you do next? The only other thing i can think of is to rebuild the brake caliper.
Any suggestions appreciated!!

Well fixed my problem finally after close to a year of dealing with it. It turned out to be the caliper. I ordered a rebuilt one, and after the core return it was like $50, not too bad. But after I look back at it, it makes sense, the caliper piston wasn't fully flush with the back of the pad. So that gave it room to move around when the piston was pushing on it, making it sound like a warped rotor.
