concern about soft paint mitsubishi dealer here is a joke

okay so i bought my 2009 lancer gts just after july last year. had is for about 3 months and put 3500 when the 5 speed tranny messed up i had to fight with them to fix it and won that dealer battle. now i have a new problem and i brought it to there attention and they basically told me to **** off. my problem is the paint its so soft if you look at if it falls off! i took some pics of all the ones i could see today....i can find more when i was it...i dont drive on any gravel roads at all either
first pic is under the drivers side door mirror.
second pic is drivers side back door
third is same as second
fifth is pass side rear door
the problem seems to be on the drivers side mostly..
thanks for your help in advance

cheers

Try a new dealer if you can. Tell them you want the warranty DSM to come see it. See if you can run your fingernail along the affected areas to see if the paint just chips off. This is what I did and I got my bumper repainted. I ran my thumbnail along the top edge of the bumper where it meets the hood and the paint would flick off. It was painted with no questions, also the rear bumper and trunk were hitting each other every time I closed it and they adjusted the trunk and painted the bumper. good luck.

from the looks of it your tires are kicking a lot of debris up. Most likely this is all the result of spirited driving and lots of crap on the roads in your area. Notice all the spray on the lower part of your sideskirt. Even when we had 10inches of show a month or 2 ago I never had that much dirt as a result of road grime and salt as you do now.

Yeah, mostly road debris flying off your tires... I had the same problem right after I got my GTS last June, I quickly bought some RallyArmor mud flaps and I did not notice any more chipping... (it's winter so I'm not checking thoroughly, but I do wash the car as much as I can and didn't notice anything particular)

It's mostly due to how the car is made... Get some mudflaps for now and try to get the dealer to repaint the affected areas (might be hard though).

the dealer in my city is the only one around for 200 km and yeah..i am wondering how the heck there still in bizz..
and yea there is alot of road grim here but that doesnt explain why one side is chiped all to hell and one side is not.. it just seems to be the one side of the car the drives side. the reason for the road grim like that is because it will get warm here like -6 or -7 the sun will be out melt some snow...then the next day it will be -26 and around 34 with windchill and be snowing then the city workers come out with there trucks. my commute to work is about 13 km one way and most of it is freeway driving and there usaly dry as a bone.... also i have a cavalier that i used to do the same commute in and it never got a single stone chip and its a black. so everything shows...everything lol i am at a loss for words with my dealer there just a bunch of dicks that need there croked smiles realigned..

Yeah well, the cavalier didn't have 18 inch tires on it and the overall shape of the car is different, so you can't really compare...

But I have to admit that mitsu paint is far from being the best, but it's not the worst...

Yeah, the paint on Mitsubishi's in general is COMPLETE GARBAGE!! I don't care what any loyal Mitsubishi owner says about it being "normal" or "road condition, climate, geographic location blahh blahh blahhh.... The simple truth is that Mitsubishi has had this problem since the 90's and STILL in 209 have yet to correct it...

The number of chips, scratches and what not's i have on my car is Insane and ABSOLUTELY NOT NORMAL!! Granted these cars have large tires and the side skirts are a main target, but paint chipping off the doors and scratches just showing up?? For goodness sakes my California blade even scratched it!! An yea it's garunteed not to scratch a cars paint... But i wont call the maker because the blade has dryed off all my cars over the years and has not once put a scratch on them, except this thing..... Never had a problem with any of my Nissan's, Infiniti's, my Mercedes and my mom's Lexus..... So no, its not normal, but what are you going to do?

Even if it is repainted, it will just keep happening until Mitsubishi realizes/ accepts how cruddy the paint is on ALL their cars.

All's i have to say is thank you Lord that i leased this... Don't misunderstand, I really like this car, But workmenship in this car, will keep my from buying it at lease end, and from ever buying another Mitsubishi product agian.... Gosh i miss my Nissan's/ Infiniti's

FYI anyone seen the new Consumer report all about cars only the outlander was recomended out off the mitsu cars............

Most likely it has nothing to do with spirited driving, but the regular winter road conditions where people know what winter is about. That's a clean car compared to cars up here on a day when the snow melts a little, in one day you get your car dirty like you skipped the wash for a year. No wonder our cars look like beaters in a couple of years, unless you store them for winter or wash them alot.

I've noticed that the lancer and galant get dirty the same way, they both shaped to have ugly dirt marks (all my other cars had the usual splash on front doors and rear fenders and that's it). Just another reason to keep washing them

I have to agree with the soft paint observation. I have only logged 400 miles on my 09 RA and I have noticed numerous small chips on the front and sides of the car. The roads I drive everyday are tough in NJ but so far I consider the paint durability marginal on the car. I am afraid to think about how bad this will be after 36K. But hey I bought it to be a daily driver not a collectors car and it is a lot of fun to drive.

Once I get my new paint gauge, I'm going to be taking some readings from my Lancer to see exactly how thin/thick our paint really is and where the worst spots are. I already have a feeling the results are going to be pretty depressing. And to draw a comparison, I'll also take readings from a few other brands (Ford, Hyundai, Cadillac, Toyota) as well as readings from another Lancer.

If the results are way below industry average and really inconsistent from body panel to body panel , there's a chance it could turn into a warranty claim.
