Mitsu dealer told me that it is in fact inside the tank with the pump. They said there is no actual filter needing replacement. I only found this out because I went to virtually every auto parts store when they switched to 15% ethanol in our gas and I thought it was the fuel filter giving me hell, but the auto parts stores didnt have a number for a fuel filter. I finally went to the dealer and thats what they told me was there isnt a replaceable filter without replacing the pump.

You can replace it without replacing the pump. Take the back seat out, take the access plate off... there are about 8x 8mm nuts... take those off take the pump out of the module, replace the Strainer. AutoZone has the Strainer (or can order it overnight) for about $20. OEM strainer is about $15-$50... depending on if your dealer uses matrix pricing or not.

dump some fuel system cleaner or seafoam the next time you fill it up, you don't really need to replace the strainer

eventually you'll have to. Especially if you fill up all the time after the fuel tanker leaves or is still there filling the tanks.

I use the fuel system cleaner stuff every few months, and i get around 300-320 miles until the light comes on. And i do not drive it easily, i have a heavy foot, and i like to hear my car rumble!

Actually recently when I drove the speed limit on a full tank I got 350 miles. Maybe that's why there is a speed limit, not just another reason for me to get a ticket

I have a 03 OZ 5 speed manual with RRM SRI and a cat back exhaust and my last time at the pump I got 32mpg and that was after romping on it doing about 85 on the highway to get to work on time lol.

Between racing to work, having fun around town and driving somewhat sensibly... I usually get around 32 to 37 MPG. Or between 310 to 360 miles to a tank.

I have a completely stock automatic Oz and i get no less than 300 miles with a hwy/local "aggressive" mix on hilly terrain. Once i pushed it to around 350 miles than shortly ran out of gas
