Clutch Bypass, Cold Weather
Clutch Bypass, Cold Weather
I have a 09 ES with the Viper 5901 installed. I have had no problems with the alarm until recently and that is starting at a cold start early in the morning. It has just come back from Mitsu, and poor techs tried everything they good, thankfully they did not charge me for their troubles. They concluded that it was the alarm.
Now, since I have had the alarm put in, the clutch has been overridden, meaning I do not have to engage the clutch to have the car started. It can start w/o me pushing it in. I have been doing some research and discovered that the tech who installed the alarm may have cut a wire to the clutch switch.
As soon as I got the car back, I pulled the dash board panels off, and have them currently in my trunk, the car is a mess but it looks good. I crawled underneath and notices the switch that is mounted on the back of the clutch pedal, with a wire socket(female) on the side of the switch post. There was not a male end, in this socket. Looking around the capartment I found the clip that belongs to the clutch pedal. There are two wires, I am thinking one is for the cruise, and the other is for the clutch. There is a Black/red, and Red/white. The alarm tech snipped the Red/white wire and added a piece of red wire, and tucked it away, as if he was going to do something with the wire. Now I have plugged the wire back in the clip and started the car again without engaging the clutch, I have since unplugged the clip. I desperately need this car to start in the cold weather, for now I have used the kill switch on the brain to disable the remote starting on the alarm.
I am familiar with the SPDT relay that I need to install inline with the clutch wire, but I am not sure if this is the correct harness.. The shoe fits on the clutch, but is it correct?
I know that I need to clip a wire going to the clutch and add one end to post 87, and the other end of the clutch wire to post 30 on the relay. While taking a constant 12v source and plugging into post 85, and the (-) remote start output wire on the brain (violet or purple) and plug it into post 86... 87a will not be used in this situation.
I left asking, what is still overriding the clutch if no wires are cut, and the clutch wires are plugged into the switch? The shop says the brain is able to override the clutch through logic, can this be confirmed?
And on a side note, when pulling the dash part, I found some wires that plug into a switch beheind the blinker handle. Looking in the manual the switch is for headlight leveling. I have the wires running there, if I was to buy a switch, could my car have leveling headlights? Or will I need install the motors on the headlamps (I was hoping that they would already be installed haha)
thanks for your input.
By the way, the car is properly maintained, it has a brandnew battery, air and cabin filters, and a brand new ECU version from mitsu, (they flashed the computer while running the diagnostics on her)
