Turn signal Issues

Hey all!

I'm having some issues with my 2009 Lancer ES, with the turn signals. But it doesn't have to do exactly with the fact that they dont work.

When you twist the left knob on the steering wheel column to low beams, or to the first notch available, normally your tailights and your front turn signals light up. ( to the default dim but noticable)

Well the front turn signals that normally would glow amber when I set them to turn on dont work anymore. Both fuses seem fine but I'm growing with concern because they used to work fine, and I always liked them on.

What should I check? (other than the fuses which aren't blown) Because I may have missed a relay that controls this, or a loose cable in the drivers side that could be causing this?

All help is appreciated!
Nick

Lightbulb

Hey NickRick2641...
Please describe exactly what lights don't work and under what circumstances?
I am a automotive electrical specialist and will help you sort this out. Now is it what i would call "running light" and or signals as well
Thanks
Kellcsi

Seems like it would be under a warranty issue if you really can't figure it out, but check to see if it is a dual element bulb or if the dimmer switch isn't working right, check for power from the switch out on each stage and see whats happening, a test light or a oHm meeter will do.

@kellcsi:

Like you mentioned, I believe they are just lights that are steadily on when you turn on your lights at night. Running lights as you mentioned.

@KyleTsi:

yeah I figured I'll send it in for this issue while I'm already getting the safety recall done for the airbag sensors!

Sorry if i didn't really word it right, but its not the turn signals that are not functioning, but the outer-most lights in the headlight assembly.

Oh ok, so they are the driving lights, they should come on with the headlights, you should have a fuse for those or sometimes a relay behind each headlight, I havn't had the chance to work on a newer evo so I don't really know the setup to well. But the dealer should take care of it none the less.

Sorry to pull this a bit off topic:

I've got a turn signal issue, but not the same one:

Has anyone noticed that if you turn your signal halfway, and return the signal switch back to the start position, the signal is still triggered? I've had this happen many times, but it's just a minor annoyance more then anything.

Yes and it's on purpose.. It's a lane change setting on the turn signal. It signals 3 times to make it easier to show you are making a lane change. Check your manual, it's explained in more detail there.

i am having an issue with my 03 lancer OZ Rally, my left turn signal inside the headlamp assembly does not work, i have replaced the bulb, tryed wiggling wires while the turn signal switch is on and nothing, i'm going to check for power and ground to the socket today, but my main questions is if anybody has had this same issue out of thier ES, OZ, or other base Lancers?

Thanks All,
James

You might get a better result posting in the right forum. This is for 2008+ lancers, not 2003.

Fixed!

Well, after 2 trips to the dealership, they could not find the problem and said they were going to put in new wiring and a new fuse box.

Annoyed that I would have to bring my car another 55 miles and 45 mins away. (Not to mention I wasted a few hours waiting at the dealership as they tried to fix it, I began to check the fuses myself. All's good. I checked both bulbs, both were burnt out.. despite that I had replaced them.

I replaced the burnt bulbs again, and they burnt out as well. Confused, I began to look through the wiring. I noticed they had pulled some wires and they hadn't taped it all back.

To my luck, one of the wires were splined and was touching the chassis, I dunno why it was splined, but it solved the problem. Now my question is why aren't the fuses blowing out? Well its fixed, so that solves the issue with the burnt bulbs!

Since the wires where touching the chassis, its possible that it made a parallel circuit around the fuses. Wouldn't be the first time i heard something like that happening.
