Electrical Problems Need Help!!!

I have an 08 Lancer Gts, I am having electrical problems with the car, I have been going through headlights every month, the dome lights have been blowing until I replaced them with LED's, I have also noticed the fasten seatbelt warning doesnt come on when it should, and my cars security system doesnt beep as loud as it use to when I lock or unlock it, Does anyone know what can be causing this, I have checked the fuses and connections through out the entire car, and everything is fine. Thanks

Performance wise, It hasn't been modified in anyway. There is no warranty on the car and dealership is two hours away. I bought it used with 8k miles a year ago, knowing that it needed some work, just trying to understand the problem so i can work on getting it fixed. Thankyou

You will definetely need to invest in a digital multi meter. Once you have one, if you dont already, pull one of the harnesses of of the bulbs. Turn your lights on and check to see what the voltage is at the plug. It should be ~12Vdc. If it is higher than ~14V there is def somethin wrong with a converter somewhere. If the voltage is fine, then verify that you have the correctly sized bulbs. If they are not what is speced, there could be a possibility of them burning out.

Have you blown any fuses yet?

Thankyou, I will def. have to try that, So far not a single fuse has blown, I was checking the car out some yesterday and noticed that my sub seems to be getting more power as well, what i dont understand is if my headlights, dome lights are getting too much power why havent the rear lights burn out as well, I also have noticed even when my seat belt warning decides to work again everything is still fine, its when it goes back out and my "beep" from locking and unlocking is louder is when i start to have these problems again.

it could be a bad battery. if it is defective it could be unintentially discharging....its a far stretch, but possible. As for the rear lights not getting burned out, it could be on a circuit that isnt affected, or there is enough wire in the way to cause a voltage drop before the bulbs.

okay got myself a meter and found that the battery is running over 14v even when car is off, and all components, headlights dome lights etc. are running 14 or over, is the battery bad or alternator, is there some kind of regulator that controls how much power the cars components get?

You mentioned you have a sub. Are you running an extra battery or capacitor of any kind? Also, digital multi meters are a great tool, however, they are sensitive enough to read through corrosion. I would suggest an analog meter for chasing things like you are. Check for loose terminals on the battery, and chase a couple of the larger grounding wires coming from the battery negative terminal to see if they are loose.
Is your battery stock? Or an optima dry cell type? Did/can you check fluid level in the battery if it's a normal lead acid battery? If the car isn't running and you are seeing 14v, then it's not the alternator because it's not providing any power.

That's strange. So you're saying your battery, without the car running is showing 14+ volts? Does the sides of the battery feel warm to the touch? It seems to me, it's shorting within the battery causing the high voltage readings. There's no way a battery sitting, with no alternator charging it should be showing more than 12 volts.

it is possible for a battery to run high. usually it means it could be bad.

you can try leaving ur lights on, with the car off, for about an hour. then check the voltage at the battery. you should see some drop in in voltage. if it is still high i would say its the battery. you should probably go to an auto zone or such and have them hook up their battery tester...i would hate to tell u to get a new battery and not have that b the problem.

okay so checked it again today after the car sat all night and the battery was around 13v, but as soon as i start it it runs 14+v and all the components run 14+v would it still be the battery that is causing the components run high i checked some fact about the bulbs and they are only able to withstand around 13.5 at most.

With our lancers running, the batter will read just above 14V. It is a little higher than normally expected out of most vehicles, but this is what my car has done since day one. I would get your battery tested. Also lights are covered up to two years under warranty...
