MMCS "delete backup memory," etc.

Can anyone tell me what the "delete backup memory" option in the MMCS's SET+NAVI technician menu refers to? When I bought my car the previous owner had a ton of music on the HDD, and while I have deleted it all I'm wondering is there's some kind of HDD maintenance I could do it on it free up all the available space for music (which apparently is only 5GB), like a "defragment" for computers. Does the backup memory refer to this, or is it something I shouldn't mess with? The last thing I want to do is rip 20 CD's to the HDD and find out that the memory is already full and I can't add any more music.

There is no way that i know of to get more than the 5Gb of space for music. as for the delete, i presume it has something to do with a bunch of settings, and I have never used it.

Maybe I should clarify: my issue isn't wanting to have MORE space for music on the HDD, my concern is that I'll have LESS due to possible fragmentation on the drive from the music the previous owner had on it. I'm wondering if the "delete backup memory" option works to remove any possible fragmentation that could be there (although odds are there isn't much at all).

our navi's are built on QNX OS, I'm not an expert on QNX, but from my understanding the root system trys to keep files contiguous instead of spreading data on the disk like a windows os would. so when you delete all the files, there should be no or little to no fragmentation on the disk leaving you with all the available space.

Exactly the answer I was looking for. Thanks a lot. Now I can rip CD's without fear.
