HID kit flicking issue

i installed a set of HID kit with relay harness in my lancer GTS recently but i still got minor flicking - very fast pulsing but continuous light... is there anything i can do? will adding HID anti-flicker helps?

what kind of hid's do you have? i have the same problem, but i think it's because i got the cheapest one on ebay for 35 bucks called xentec. it annoys the crap out of me thinking about getting the ddm tuning hids... but i've heard both good and bad reviews.

i got the cheap stuff in ebay as well haha~ don't even know what the name is. that seller has 100% feedback so i just gave it a try... here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.ca/HID-XENON-CONVERS...DLVI%26ps%3D63

my mechanic believes it's the HID bulbs problem as he's already added the relay in when he installed the HID kit. i asked the seller to send me a set of new HID bulbs and i will see if this will fix the problem.

Hey Bonbon07. Unfortunately HID kits have gotten to the point where they are a dime a dozen. There are so many kits out there its hard to really pick out the few that are good.

The way I look at an HID kit is, you want one that is high quality but with a proven track record. One of the only kits I have seen that have a flawless record would be the Xtreme Kits from XenonDepot. Everyone in our local TLC car club that has bought one has had very little issue. Each kit comes with a Anti Flicker kit, Relay Kit with it.

The anti flicker kit or Canbus fix works as a capacitor and events out the power so you dont get that flickering when the head light switch is off. The relay will ensure more voltage stability when operating the kit. You want to eliminate those variances in power if you want your kit / bulbs to last along time.

The kit costs about 160 dollars but it will likely be the last kit you ever buy for that car. There are a dozen cheaper kits out there, but at the end of the day, there is nothing worse then a bulb dyiing and you gotta replace both in order to have the colors match again.

If you need a link on where to buy the kit or the individual fix kits let me know. Just know that some HID kits depending on how cheap their construction, may not work well with the fix kits out there. Its rare but I have seen it.

Cheers

i found the xenondepot in www.kbcarstuff.com - http://www.kbcarstuff.com/HID-Kits-s/216.htm

are u talking about this place? it's on bathurst and steeles rite? do they have a actual retail store there or i have to order everything online?

i will wait till my HID kit dies out and i will get the Xtreme Digital HID Conversion Kits for sure. $160+ tax is not too bad.

I am not sure if they have a retail location. I know there is a shop called speedstar in Toronto that stocks their kits. You could try there.
I have only ordered from Xenon Depot online and on the phone. I have spoken to the owner Steve many times and he has sponsored our car club in the past. That said you can follow Lancer0220 suggestion. But if it was me I would spend money on a kit with this type of reputation.

To prove the point, You can look at on www.clubrsx.com and search, XenonDepot has been selling kits since about 2003 on there. The same kit. I purchased one of my kits from there in my Acura days. I owned a kit for 5 years, original bulbs and hardware. Never had a problem. There are 100's maybe 1000's of guys out there that had the same experience.

are you running a drl bypass? maybe check the ground wires because I know my HIDs would flicker if I went over bumps or hit a pothole.. Noticed my ground wire was a little loose.

Just checked the speedstar website. I didn't see any mention of the anti-flicker relay. I guess Ill just pop in and ask them myself.

All the kits tend to be the same just priced higher at your local shops.

hello everyone.
i would like to say that i bought my kit 2 weeks ago for my lancer 2009 and i absolutely have NO flickering. After reading a lot of forum about the flickering problem, the only kit on the market that will not give you any flickering is the CANBUS BALLAST 55W. Canbus ballast have built in warning canceller and anti-flickering. So i go ahead and find a site where they sell the canbus ballast 55w hid kit. I did find and the website s
name is www.xenonhidconversionkit.com. I ordered them 2 weeks ago, got them in 4 days and i installed them. Installation was really easy and took me 20 minutes to do a clean and solid installation. its been 1 week now and the kit is working fine without any flickering. I strongly recommend this website. I had a positive experience.

God bless America

I have encountered a lot of HID kits in my time but I have yet to see a 55w HID state the test of time. Trust me, I have tested many and over seen a lot of installs. Maybe the quality of kits have caught up and using 55w kits are good. But I don't think I could use them. Primary reason, when something fails, it takes the whole ballast with it. Dont get me wrong, built in is the way to go and eventually all companies will go that way. But I think I will wait and see the track record of the brand.

Getting back on subject. Its highly recommend that people use both a Relay Kit + Canbus fix (anti flicker) to ensure stability for the kit. It will give your kit a better shot at longer life.

the capacitor inside the ballast act like a relay. The relay take the energy from the battery to help the ballast to have always 12v. capacitor keep the energy and will give it to the ballast when needed. i'm an engineer and i know exactly what im talking about. Buy them you see you wont be disappointed.
