Strange Noises from my 08 gts

Every time from a cold start the engine sounds like knocking or sputtering. It doesn't go away even if I drive for the whole day. And also when I accelerate slowly, I can hear a rattle sound. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes, I only have the rattle though.I had taken it to the dealer, had a tech ride with me, took it back put it on the lift, visually inspected, ran a computer diagnostic with zero errors and they still couldn't figure it out. I didn't want them to take the valve cover off because it sounds cosmetic not mechanical. **** me off.

I got this lancer in april, at first I didnt hear the rattling, maybe always driving too fast and engine drowns it out. But i started to notice it when it started getting colder here in ny. The rattling sounds like pieces of metal rumbling in a can. But i never was able to pin point the location since it has to be moving to hear it. Cant hear when in park.

Most likely a heat shield is a little loose.

The heat shield is fine, the rattling sound seems to be coming from below... Any ideas?

See if turning your air conditioning on/off makings the noise start/stop.

When you took it to the dealer, did you ask them to check for loose parts/screws.

Go to the dealer and have them use their emissions dyno to test the car under load driving it. If he doesnt make the nose then. Take it to a dyno shop and have them do some testing on a rolling dyno. Track down the sound and get it figured out so you have peace of mind.

Some mechanics buy what is called a mechanics ear. It is a set of 4 radio transmitted microphones that pick up noise and send them to a unit so they can monitor them from various parts of the car while driving and review them later. See if that shop has one and hopefully they can help you out. With no CEL and problems duplicating it, this may be hard, but if it happens in all driving conditions all the time, then they should be able to verify and source your complaint. Good luck
