sons of *****es!! So in our last installment I was to meet the dist rep tomorrow- 10/24- so he could take a look at my paint. I called on Monday to confirm. "He'll be here Thursday" was the word from the service manager, Kevin. "Would you like me to give you a call when the time, etc. are solidified?" "Yeah, that'd be great, call my cell phone".
No call.
I called today, wed, and was told that Kevin was out sick. Al, the interim manager told me THE ****ING REP WAS HERE LAST WEEK!!! I call the paint guy and asked him if he'd heard anything. He then called the dealership manager and set up a date. Nov 5 and I have to somehow provide my own transportation to the dealership and then back again. Also, they'd have to take it to two other paint places for inspections. That's bull****. How in the Hell am I supposed to drive myself around without a car?
So, it looks ugly. I'm going to try to speak with the dealership manager myself to at least get a rental car for the day. And if that fails, that is, if I don't get SOME satisfaction from these people, I'm going to start the letter writing campaign to JD Power and to the WA state Atty Gen. This particular dealership seems especially worried about it's customer service ratings.

*****es.

Ok, so I've been a LOT lax about updating so here goes.
The letters worked! It turns out that the number and types of cars that dealers get is pretty much based on their customer service rating (read: low score= possibly NO Evo's). The rep looked, auth'd repair of the rock damage (the hood and the passenger's quarterpanel) and it took about a week but she's looking really good.

Take heart!! A well written letter sent to the right people does work.

You guys all have warrentys so why worry? Other than you will have to wait a few days for it to get painted. Maybe they'll recall all of the yellow lancers and replace them with evos

Yeah right.....

OZRALLY- We weren't/aren't making the big deal. The dealers are. They warrantied the paint, they should not only live up to their warranty but do so in a timely and professional manner. Being a dick to a customer who bought a new car from their lot is not professional. Not returning phone calls and ducking me at every opportunity is not professional. Six and a half weeks is a little more than a few days, and I basically threatened their EVO allocation to get them to agree to even look at the car. (I've been told that dealerships get the "premo" cars based on their JD Power customer service ratings and I told them that JD Power would be getting a copy of my complaint if they didn't at least look at my car).
Hopefully any warranty issues will be handled more smoothly by your dealer.

Thats totaly BS. Those damn dealers could at least pay more attention to their customers, and return phone calls. If I were one of you i'd drive my car down to the dealership find out which car the sales manager drivers, and park my car in front of it, so that he cannot get out. Then he'll have to look at the car. Don't move your car till they do something about it.

BTW, this paint chipping and and fading problems isn't only a case with the Lancers. My uncle's '99 2G Eclipse has so many friggin' scratches on it from rocks. Nearly anything can make a visible scratch. I think is just hella cheap with their paint.

I have 12K miles on mine. The side skirts are at a body shop being painted. this is turning into a big issue for mitsubishi. They started to say it wasn't covered because I scraped my feet along the edge when I get out. I finally got it covered and should recieve them back Monday. (looks weird without them). I asked the body shop why it was pealing away. he said they only did a single coat of paint and there is no clear coat on that part. He said everyone with the OZ lancer will ahve the same issue. take it to the dealer NOW and get it fixed.. don't take NO for an answer.

Unfortunately Victor, unless Mitsu does a recall, we'll all have to wait until the paint starts to peel, fade, crack, whatever, before we can just take our cars back and ask for a complete reshoot.

My body shop agrees with yours: the paints, just too thin and the clearcoat isn't up to par= cheap paint on our babies

Hm..I've never heard of this happening. Mine is thunder-grey, and I have no fading. I have a few chips here and there, but that's from old age, and can be fixed with touch up paint.

Sure I could fix it with touch up. but the touch up you get from the dealer (Y01) isn't the right color and I'm not gonna run around in a ghetto off-yellow polka dotted car.

I just looked this weekend and found several MORE deep chips (to the metal) and some rock scratches. One big one on the hood, one one the roof, several on the front quarterpanels and the paint on the front lip feels rough and is a greenish-black. I used spray detailer (Mother's ShowTime), scratch-x, clay bar and my favorite cleaner/wax and it still feels like sandpaper up front. I don't really know what to do at this point aside from trying again and then parking her in a garage so she can't get chipped
