Question Found a Lancer in a auction BUT says Tranimssion Service Required Needed advice.

I found a 2010 lancer in a auction that was stolen the keys r missing , muffler is down and the display is saying Transmission Service Required . Im not sure if it would be worth it to bid on this car. The body looks good and its fully loaded .. but im not sure if it would be worth the headache and what could be the cause of the problem why its showing that Tranimission service light

[Update] Bought the car and it wasnt as messed up as i thought. Fixed the steering column for 90 dollars Cat bought a universal one for 60 and other little things . Over all Spent about 12k on the car

Depending on the price its going for at the auction i would buy it, Even if you have to drop a few grand on the car to fix it(assuming the transmission issue isnt covered by the warranty), you will have a solid almost new car for prolly a lot less than buying the same car brand new in 2010.

As far as I know mitsu's warranty is transferable so you should be good on the transmission. Getting keys from a dealer shouldn't be an issue either. However the car is registered to someone, unless it was stolen from a lot. If the original owners have wrote the car off and have something new i'm sure it wouldnt be hard to get the original keys from them. The police have a record of who owned it. Odd they arent supplying keys with it though, as you can't just get a normal key cut and have it work. Has to be a programmed keyfob or the killswitch gets activated.

yeah im not sure what the title will be declared , but i just read it the warranty and says this

WHAT IS NOT COVERED
ALTERATION, MISUSE, OR ACCIDENT DAMAGE
Examples are:
• Any vehicle previously declared a total loss and/or transferred or title branded as salvage, due to an accident or
other catastrophic event
• Collision, fire, theft, freezing, vandalism, riot, explosion,
or objects striking your Vehicle

But yeah if i can get it around 10k and put a couple thousand to fix it up i still would save alot from buying from a dealer . Only downside i wouldn't have no warranty.

thanks for the info

If its $8,000 or under and its fully loaded, its worth it, fix the transmission, and get one of those extended warranties. I was gonna say 10k or under, but that was hoping that there are no engine issues that would require fixing. I'm thinking 2k for transmission 1k for labor 1k for warranty and you got nice newish car for reasonable price. My lancer is still worth like 10-13k and its not at all fully loaded. Basically base GTS as far as I can tell.

If its a CVT the transmission is "not serviceable", if its a manual it shouldn't be too complicated to fix. But i doubt it is something you can do yourself.

Unless the transmission was blown up, then it would still be warranty if it just happened to be a sensor, there are still serviceable parts of the transmission, just not the main belts and pulleys.

Warranty implies that it isn't valid if it has been stolen and the transmission shifted into reverse going 140km/hr in drive. If its a failed speed sensor, then its still covered, and also the rest of the transmission will be covered in the future unless they can prove later on that the thief did it, which is very unlikely.

Get a scan tool and check the code. Then you can figure out what it may need.

Ahhh ok cool dude i think imma go to the auction place and check it out and use a scan tool to figure out whats the problem . I also found out they r selling the car with the orginal title does that mean ill be able to have warranty???

And when u take your car into be serviced do they check the vehicles history information from the vin to find out if the cars been in anything?

No, a normal dealer will not spend money to do a vin search for accident/theft history. And post the code here and one of us can help you with it.

Also, as far as I know. The warranty is fully transferable on mitsu's. Call you local dealer and confirm.

yeah i wrote to a dealership here where i lived and they responded to this

Yes you do still have warranty 5years or 60k on the transmission. If it has a failure that is not from an outside influence you will covered 100%

when can you bring it in?

I thought powertrain was 10 years? I would double check.
