Shimmy

K, quick rundown. I have been experiencing a minor "shimmy" feeling through the steering wheel for the past few months. I had diagnosed it as an imbalanced wheel, and knew that I would be replacing the wheels and tires within the month, so, left it alone. Now, it's still happening. Only happens at 69-71 MPH in a straight line. Any ideas on what the hell it could be?

New wheels are on. No little lead things that I know of. It's the exact same shake as it was before, so, I'm assuming that it's something a little more complicated than balancing. Is it possibly the allignment?

I took it back to discount today, and had them rebalance the hell out of em. Found out my passenger side was off by .5 oz. Took it up to 70, and the shimmy is still present, just not as blatant. Now, I think it's at the point that I'm just being paranoid.

Ill tell you exactly what its is. I had the same problem and i did all the things that you have done. It is one of the wheel bearings that are bad. If you have a warranty still then have it checked out.

Okay, bring me up to speed... a what? How much to diagnose and fix, because I really don't feel like stripping off my aftermarket wheels so the dealer doesn't throw a fit.

Well allignment would have nothing to do with your car shakeing it would only make your car pull from side to side. If your car has been balanced and its still shimmying then it is most likely a wheel bearing. If you still have a warranty then it should be fixed for free. If not then your screwed because its gonna cost around $400 or so.

Well, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that it would change with the balancing/rotation of tires... Then again, it wouldn't make sense as an allignment problem.
