11 Thousand Miles and Dropping Oil...
Here's something for you to all wonder about.
I have an '02 OZ, which has roughly 11,400 miles on it. Yesterday I had my usual oil change, when I was called under the service bay to examine a problem.
The oil sending unit on the bottom of the oil pan is leaking. If you aren't paying attention, you might think that the oil filter is the problem, as the sending unit is positioned directly above it.
I will tell you now, it is not a strong leak, and I have not seen spots anywhere I have parked. The oil drips onto the bottom of the oil pan, where most of it burns off while under use. The rest of it flys back onto the front suspension hardware, and the inside of the wheels.
I'm mentioning this because you will most likely not notice this problem until it BECOMES a problem. Without careful inspection of the undercarrige, you may never realize you have a leak. The other reason I bring it to your attention is this: my service department seems to know this problem quite well, as if they handle cases regularly.
My advice is to have it checked next time you change your oil. If you do it yourself, take a small flashlight with you under the car. If you take it to a corner shop, make sure they are reputable and know what they are doing. Better yet, take it to the dealer yourself.
Get it checked out. It's not really a problem early on, but it can become one if the unit fails.

I change my own oil and I'm under the car every 3K miles and not once have I seen anything of the sort that you'd be describing. I haven't seen any scoring or marks (be it from oil cooking to the pan) that would indicate that.
Ill have to take a look at that, I never can tell if I leave oil in the driveway cause I never park in the same spot, we have 3 cars in the driveway...so Ill look at it tomorrow when I clean the car
