Will Mazdaspeed6 trump Evo, STi, and R32
What are the factors to look at to "be in the same market/segment"?
0-60 times within a .5 second? 1/4 mile times?
Price point within 15%? ( Evos now range from 27K - 35K )
Drivetrain?
Handling Capabilites? Feel?
What makes this MazdaSpeed6 ( which very little is known about ) comperable to the Evo/STi/R32?
Is the R32 even in the same market as the Evo/Sti?

I think it's handling will surprise alot of people.. I see it being quite a bit above the Legacy in performance.. Between the STI, Evo, and R32, I think it will undoubtedly be the best mix of performance and luxury but luxury isn't what alot of us are after
WoW sick car, not an evo or STI beater (long wheelbase, high weight, porbley softer suspension) however still a sweet ride. Definatly my kind of daily driver (the evo is taking its toll on me since it is my only car)
looks too "soft".
i think mazda is aiming more towards an S4 status as far as mentality. no, i am not saying this car is compareable to an S4, i think the intentions behind the car is similar. a liveable, daily driver that can perform, BUT has a cheaper price tag.

-run 0-60 mph 5 flat or quicker
-cost less than $35K
-be a sedan
-have AWD
As EVO enthusiasts, we sacrificed luxury for performance.
One nice thing about it being an official MazdaSpeed car is that Mazda will encourage people to actually put the thing onto a race track (road race/auto-x, not 1/4 mile) and won't be spying and voiding warranties like
I'm sure Mazda will do a nice job dialing the car in, although I doubt that it will handle anywhere near as good as the Evo (probably close to the Sti though, hehe
). IMO this car has the potential to steal a lot of Audi/VW sales. With that kind of power it isn't that far off an S4 or even A4/passat at a fraction of the cost...

The Mazda6 Sports Sedan is 3045 lbs with the V4 and 3241 with the V6 (both m/t, acording to Mazda.) The Mazdaspeed will probably add some weight in the form of the turbo and AWD, but lose some weight in materials, so it'll probably end out somewhere in between. Not that heavy.
This is definitely one to look out for, specially as a DD. Can't wait to hear more about it, sounds like it will be mod friendly 9.5:1 compression and 2.3 liter is a nice combo for a nice BIG turbo, hehe...... I am sure the Mazda crew already have a plot in mind.

what about the other rally/production cars that are NOT 4 door? i don't think the cosworth or the citroen or peugot are 2 door... though i'm probably mistaken since i'm blind and havne't had really good looks at the cars...
i think the market is based around: street production rally cars. 4 cylinder turbo, awd.
the mazda wouldn't compete because it does not have rally roots, nor does it fit in the "size" category, which would be compact car. if the protege hatch or something were made in this vein, then i could see it. otherwise, no.
