How can you own a car and be so misinformed??? Don't you know the EVO just received an award for holding it's value so well, so no the GTI does not have a better resale value than the EVO.

 

had a 2000 vr6 jetta with 66k without a single problem, i was on vw forums for years and numerous clubs and think the build quality of vw is great (have heard far less problems or low mileage reliabilty issues than evos), other good things are all vw dealerships ive dealed with are cool with modding, the only problem with the gti is the 6 speed isnt that functional and the rear suspension isnt independent they also had problems with window regulators and coilpacks but they might have even fixed these, id say if he doesnt plan on modding it himself find a used 20th anniversary edition or a 337 if he can find one - they come stock with lots of goodies for about 18k used
