what u guys think of tha new chevy colbalt
22k for a Chevy, FF, 205hp. Supercharged, limited aftermarket with the new ecotech motor.
24k for a WRX, AWD, 227hp. Turbo, easily upgradable with tons of parts.
I'd spend the lil bit extra for the REX.

$21.5K for 230HP (at the wheels) and easily upgradeable with FACTORY parts to nearly 300HP......I like to call it the SRT-4

I like to see the other makers stepping up to the plate with affordable performance cars but this Cobalt still won't be giving Dodge a run for their money unless it just handles amazingly.....and since this is a GM car I think it's safe to say we can rule that out.....but I'd be happy to be disappointed and see GM put out something that doesn't suck in every possible way like all their cars for the last 30 years.
The only problem is the SRT-4 is also $22k, FWD, forced-induction 4cyl. Only the SRT-4 has 225hp....which is 20 more hp. So it looks like dodge wins this one. Chevy should lower the price to $19k fully loaded plus tax.
Also, I am pretty sure the SRT-4 gets a front LSD, if the cobalt doesn't have one, the SRT-4 is the clear winner.

yep, since 2004 models the SRT-4 has a Quaife LSD as standard equipment.
just to add....I think the Cobalt looks VERY good.....much better than my SRT-4 IMHO. They did right by going with 2 doors and a more aggressive stance. The interior doesn't look like it'll be winning any beauty contests though much like the SRT-4.

whoah!!! Just read this in the specs for the Supercharged version on the Chevy website:
"twist axle rear suspension"
ummmm......what???? No independent rear suspension????? So much for handling folks.....

That interior is nasty. it looks like it should be in the ford taurus. I hope that's the interior of the N/A motor package. If the "sporty verion" with the supercharged engine has that interior, that's really sad.

they've already got one they just never brought it here. In the UK and most other places you can get the "RS" which is a turbo 2 liter that puts out like 215hp and 230 ft. lbs. of torque. We already know the platform handles incredibly well because it's nearly the same as the SVT was over here and the car mags universally praised it as one of the best handling pocket rockets right up there with the Mazdaspeed.
The Ford Focus RS and the Honda Civic Hatch Type-R are the 2 cars which I'd most like to see come here that haven't thus far in this category. I would have given both a hard look in addition to the SRT when I was shopping last year mainly because they both handle terrific and still have decent power that is over 200hp.
