New eclipse maybe based on Lan Evo

While it's a short blurb, it's food for thought.

Yeah, in a sense the eclipse has always been based on the EVO. From 1991 to 1999, the eclipse GSX had essentially the same powerplant with an AWD drivetrain. From the factory it was just detuned like hell. But any DSM'er knows the potential of the 4G63 weather it's in an EVO or an Eclipse GST/GSX.

New Eclipse Evo

From Autoexpress.

I'll take 2 please...............

There's no doubt that Mitsubishi's awesome Evolution VIII has the performance to match most supercars, but now it has the styling to match. This official sketch shows how the all-new Evo-based Eclipse will look when it is unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January. The current Eclipse is a US car, but bosses may bring this model to Britain.

Man, that would be a pretty cool car. I wonder how Evo-based it will be though?

It's too bad that they'll end up building the new Eclipse at the Normal, Illinois plant.

Evo-Based Eclipse? Like the GSX? I'm lost, how can the Exlipse be said to be Evo inspired? I'm just saying, that car looks nothing like the Evo, so where is the insperation. Besides the emblem on the front...

It's like saying, I once was inspired to eat an apple and took a bite out of an orange... well kinda.

Honestly....think about it. It's totally not a good financial move for Mitsu. If they bring that out...then what happens to the EVO that they spent so much money on bringing it over here to the US? They would have to kill off the EVO to bring out the EVO-based Eclipse. Yes they can do it, and yes it is feasible....but not until the end of the EVO is near. Now if they don't plan on having the EVO as a standard model....ok I can see it then. EVO is out for say 2 years.....the EVO-based eclipse takes over in 2005. Other then that....I don't see it happening....but it would be damn nice to see the "performance" eclipse back instead of the nutered P.O.S. we have now!!! Besides....if that IS thebody style....like cannyboy said...."I'll take 2"

Not that this has much to do with this thread, but I have seen an eclipse with an evo wing a few times on the way to work. Needless to say it is the most God-awful looking piece of monkey crap I've ever seen.

That doesn't have the split grille design like all Mitsubishis have or will eventually have

I wonder if it will use the same engine that is in the SRT-4 only with AWD. Mitsu did bring out a Panjaro Evolution. This will create "Evolution" to be thought of in the same sense as M-series BMW, Ford's SVT line, Mercedes AMG, ect. Just my .02

There are already spy pics out for it, and sad to say, it looks more like the newer Galant than that pic above.

Actually, looks like it does. If you look carefully at the front end, looks like the Evo triangle, but sloped more. I can see it.

Talk about BLIND SPOTS hardcore. It almost looks like a Celica. I think it would be a bad move for Mitsu.
