Better daily driver M3 or S4?

Thinking about getting a M3 or S4 (2000-2003ish). Which of them do you feel is better for daily use. I don't plan on modding it, just pure stock commuting driving.

I'd lean slightly towards the S4 - engine is a bit more suited to wide range driving and the added comvenience of 4 doors.

You live in Ohio? Snows alot right? The S4 is AWD. M3 sucks in snow. Trust me.

only thing that is holding me back about the s4 is that I hear they are real pieces of **** in the long run. Anyone have any insight?

Dont really care about AWD I have the evo for the snow.

Late model year Audis haven't had the dismal longevity of the older Audis. That being said, I don't know that it as sturdy and reliable as a BMW. M3 would be a lot more gratifying to drive although 2 doors are never as convenient unless you rarely have passengers in the back seat.

M3 all the way S4 is for the poor j/k

For pure luxo racecar feel go for the M3 I have one and its a blast. M3 is a great high reving (8K) street racecar, test drive one and you will know what I am talking about. (M3 is perfect the way it is no mods nessasary.) its pl;enty fast as is.

M3 sucks in snow on the stock tires. My mother owns a '97 M3 with snowtires its great in the snow! Without them it was locking up at every stoplight, spinning in first, second and sometimes third. Tires make a world of difference. A friend of mine owns a Nagaro blue S4 (2000) and he loves it as a daily driver. Stock except for a Revo chip and dahlback diverter valves. If youre planning on doing any spirited driving , I'd choose the M3, the S4 understeers like a pig.As for reliability, my friend just came up on the end of his warranty for the S4,he got a new clutch (first one started slipping but he did beat on it a bit). He had various interior bits replaced, from wear and tear, and some rattles and a problem with one of his windows. All of this was taken care of under warranty, without question. Otherwise a great daily driver, aswell as unstoppable in the snow.

I'm not looking for an evo replacement, just something comperable. Problem with my evo is its such a "raw" car. Commuting 60+ miles a day in the evo is tiresome to me I have driven nothing but Audi's my whole life not counting the evo. I guess I just was wanting to hear our communities thoughts on it.

I prefer the M3, but I dunno if I can pick one up in the price range i am looking for (under 28k)

If you're priority is utility over fun, go with the S4. If it's the other way round, then M3

My old boss at the Toyota dealership went from a Supra Turbo to a E46 M3 and he hated it because of how horrible it felt on a day-to-day basis. That being my only experience with either car, I'd say take an S4.

But also, I agree with BlackLab on all accounts. Either way it should be a blast.

Any BMW that's not AWD will totally suck in the snow. Trust me my mom has one and it's no fun to get caught out in a snow storm with one of those. S4's are awesome cars. But if you already have the evo for the snow I would definitly say go for the M3. They are incredible cars. Only go for the S4 if you need more room in the car or if you can't stand the hard ride.
