Evo8 or RX-7
Uh................. do you really need to be asking this?
Ok, if you're really that unaware, I'll tell you my own experience. My brother in law has a RX8 and they don't have much torque and far less hp than an Evo. That and they're rear wheel drive. It is clear that the RX8 just isn't as fast as my bone stock Evo. IIRC 0-60 time is something like 6.1 compared to 5.0 in the Evo.
Since you asked specifically about drag racing, it won't even come close to an Evo out of the hole with the AWD launch you can get in an EVO, and nevermind the power.
The same thing goes for cornering. Some people will say you get some understeer in the Evo because of the AWD. From my experience, if there is any understeer, its not much. Even with the traction control on the RX8 it doesn't feel like it corners nearly as well. If you turn off the traction control, it's easy to get the back end squirly. Someone else will have to give more exact numbers but I think the Evo skidpad #'s are something like 0.92 G and the RX8 is something like 0.87 G
So there you have it. Go drive both and you won't need to ever ask this again.

Box Rocket, he said RX-7, not 8.
There is no answer to your question. Any car can be fast and any car can be made to turn, it depends how much money you want to spend. Back when I wanted to purchase an FD I made sure to read up on all the problems they potentially have. If I remember correctly their engines are very sensitive to knock and if you are knocking you will blow the apex seals causing you to rebuild. Rebuilds cost about $2500 and it's hard to find someone to work on rotarys. Also they are not super reliable unless you do a bunch of reliability mods. In stock form they have issues with heat dissipation and better cooling is a must. On average the engines last for about 60k miles however I'm not sure if this has changed much. You will also want to convert the turbo to either single or non-sequential twin. The good side is they are beautiful cars. Low to the ground and RWD. I'm not sure on the cost of modding but I would think the market in the US is a lot less abundant than for the 4g63.

The EVO is definitely a better car than the RX-7. There are so many reliability issues with the RX-7, it just isn't worth the trouble, unless u got the $$$. Plus the EVO from the factory is amazing, and the AWD makes it even better. Trust me, go with the EVO!

That was a choice I had to make myself. The RX7 is a really sexy car. With work they can be incredibly fast, but they suffer from heat issues and the blow Apex seals left and right.
I chose the Evo and have no regrets.
P.S. I am a RX7 fan I owned a first and second gen.

rotary is fun, but its not as well developed or engineered as the piston engine is. the evo is an all around fun car, this coming from an ex-rotor head. You can make RX7 BLISTERING fast with the right setup, but u can do the same for the evo. RX7 definately looks a lot better than the evo and it also is not AWD. Its still a well balanced car and HIGHLY UNIQUE - turbo rotary - how cool is that? RX7 is a true sports car on a budget.
