Outlander Recall
Outlander Recall
has just announced a voluntary recall of Outlanders built before 1/30/03. In very cold ambient temperatures (around zero or less) ice may form in the throttle body, causing the throttle to stick. There have been two reported instances of this occurring - both with vehicles sold at my store interestingly enough. It gets cold here ya know.
The good news is that it is an easy fix.
yeah, i work for Korum Mitsubishi and they had just found that out yesterday too, in fact they had one in there getting fixed. He said all they have to do to fix it is just upload new softwear into the outlanders computer.

took it quite seriously. They took both cars up to the Canadian border overnight for testing and had the fix worked out by the next day. As far as I know these are the only reported instances of the problem.
where would the moisture come from that would make ice...if its that cold its probably rather dry. i can see difference in temperature when the engine is running making condensation on it...but how would a computer adjustment fix that?? the computer can't stop condensation.

"Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certian 2003 Outlanders for possible throttle icing in low ambient temperatures. In extremely low temperatures, ice can build up inside the engine throttle valve, and cause the accelerator pedal to stick or not return to idle after accelerating. This condition can be eliminated by reprogramming the software parameters for EGR control in the PCM as described in this bulletin."
I'm not a technician but it seems the EGR valve control is the culprit, allowing moisture into the throttle vavle area.
