Thinking of trading EVO in for SVT Focus -- thoughts?

Yes, I know, most of you guys think I'm crazy, but...

I would like to pull some finances away from my vehicle and put it into my home and debt. Life has become so busy that I really don't have a lot of time to enjoy my EVO and it's basically turned into a means of getting from point A to point B -- not much more. I barely have enough time for maintenance and cleaning and at this point would prefer a car that is simpler and lower maintenance, with a potential for occasional fun. I've looked into the SVT Focus and it looks like a car I could really enjoy.

A local dealer has a Focus SVT ZX3 for $15,900 (8750 miles on it). Any thoughts on this price?

Has anyone driven / been a passenger in an SVT? What are the good and bad things I need to know about this car?

I know a guy selling one right now. 04 Red SVT 23K miles 170HP supercharged, one owner 12K Price. . I'm in Louisiana let me know if you want the info. Sorry, it's a boring car, but like any car you can poor money into and make it something. Buy the Neon SRT4, hate to say it but if your strapped for cash thats the best bang for the buck for about 20K price. . You can pick up a used one cheap 15-17K price range. Also if I were you check for a used Subaru WRX 02 or 03 model, 227HP retain the AWD fun. Good Luck.

Get an SRT. Used if you have to. Best bang for the buck if you're looking to reduce expenses.

Can't really help though, I've never ridden in an SVT Focus, but looking at them, there's going to be a lot to miss of the EVO.

damn i thought this was an april fools thread until i realized its the 2nd today.
obviously, youre gonna miss the evo if you get the focus, but you already knew that.

honestly, the focus doesnt have many strong points as most cars in its class. Its just the little things on it that make it less of a car.

But then again if your focus isnt gonna be on the car anymore then sure why not go for the SVT.

Ive test drove one and for a lil Ford it is pretty nice. Its nothing like the Evo but a good car none the less. Likes to rev-high. I agree with the SRT (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=y&cardist=310 ) but if money is tight go with the SVT

SRT-4 is out of the question. While they perform well, there's something about them that I just don't like.

WRX is out of the question too. While I do want to save money, I'm not going to spend any time getting another AWD sedan -- I'd rather keep the EVO. I'm not in a bad financial situation, so I don't absolutely have to get rid of my car -- I just want to see if I can improve my situation and still have something I can enjoy every once in a while.

The SVT is of interest to me because it's asthetically pleasing and SIMPLE.

I like the blue ZX3. No red ones for me, thanks.

I guess my biggest concern is quality issues. How bad (or good) is the Focus SVT?

my friend has (or had) a zx5 and that thing had a new problem every week. i mean it could have been his abusive driving or manhandling, but the car didnt hold up. at about 40K miles he was just driving through a shopping center and his motor broke away from the mount and dropped on the ground.

the side mirrors came off from people hitting them because they dont fold in
started leaking coolant and overheating at about 35K mi.
Transmission went out at about 20K (it was automatic)
armrest broke after a year

ill tell you when i think of anything else...

Dont get anything as expensive as an SRT. Your only gonna get like 22 or so for your evo. So even if you get the focus your only gonna take away like 6 grand after taxes...with an srt your gonna get even less.

If your really hurting for cash...maybe something even cheaper? You can get an 01 stang GT for like 10 grand. They dont handle the best but they have decent power. I would find them much more entertaining than a focus.

Please read my previous post. WRX is not an option. I'm not in a situation where I HAVE TO get rid of the EVO, I'm just looking at some alternative means of transportation.

i currently drive an 04 svt zx3 and for the price it is a very fun car, quite enjoyable, and has its high points...obviously no evo but you knew that already..but as you questioned about the reliability that sadly enough is the WORST and i mean worst part about the svt

Once again, please read my previous post. Is anyone even reading my posts?

I'm looking for thoughts that are SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE SVT FOCUS and nothing more. I AM NOT STRAPPED FOR CASH.

Thanks,

Cabo

^^^ Hell you can prolly buy an 01 cobra for less than that focus. I would take a used cobra over a new focus any day. Especially if its cheaper.
