yeah don't see too much of that out here
my truck was 7000lbs+ and it would go low 14 high 13's like it sat and it was consider average. my friends dodge runs flat 12's and his truck is 7400lbs with him in it. but that's what 65psi and 4wd will get ya.... hahahh... and he drives his truck every day.

and for the record i think that the IS500 design looks really weak, lol.

How does 272 hp and 415 ft/lbs of tq from that 3.0L DIESEL sound? Well, thats what it makes, all while getting 35+ mpg in a 4k lb 5 series BMW.
A pic of the twin turbo mechanism. A work of art

The performance numbers are out. The new 5'er hits 0-62 mph in a touch over 6 seconds. The VW diesels did not suck, but they did only make 90 to 100 hp so if you think that they "suck" because they were slow, fine. The new generation of diesels that are coming out from Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, etc make great power for their sizes and many times are faster than their gasser counterparts. That new E320 CDI sold here in the states gets 39 mpg on the hwy and is a half second faster 0-60 than the gas powered version.

Where I laud BMW for continuing diesel development, I don't give them credit for a "work of 'compilicated' art." It is my impression that the most successful diesel induction systems to date are actually supercharger / turbo combos.

jcnel.
Plus to add on top of it, diesel engines are heavier, they have more parts (that can break) and require ultra-fine diesel gas or else your injectors get clogged and you're F-ed. Most of the VW diesels in Europe broke at some point because diesel quality (although light years in front of US) can still be bad. That's why VW never brought the red TDI models here (130, 150 and more horsepower).
I don't see diesel powered car really a race or sporty car, although there have been attempts (and successful ones if i may add). Diesel has gone a long way but you still have to use a damn glove to pour it into your car or else your hands smell for a week.
Diesel hater

There are the numbers in the heavier BMW 535D. I am sure in the lighter 3 series that will be a low 5 second 0-60mph car with a diesel, while getting close to 40mpg! The new twin turbo petrol version will likely not be any quicker as it does not have 413 pound feet of torque at it's disposal.
The new diesels most definatley do not suck.
I thought Desiels were LESS complicated, and fFAR more reliable. I mean I see MANY oldschool 1980 Mercedes Turbo Desiels with 2-300,000 miles on them. Hel the damn Tractor Trailers hit over a million miles

As far as the twin turbo mechanism being a work of art, did I EVER say that BMW was the one who invented it? No. Not only that, but your little soliloquy about ripping out the twin turbos on gas motors may have been fine, but you cannot do that with diesels. Their powerbands tend to be narrow enough/exhaust gas energy low enough that many times a very large turbo won't begin to spool or actually falls out of spool as the revs build in a diesel. Thats another reason why you tend to usually always see the big diesel, dually trucks that have ~600 rwhp and ~1500 rwtq with a twin turbo setup. The first smaller turbo provides quick response and the first ~40 psi of boost with the larger turbo coming in behind to knock the boost on up to 75+ psi.
Try that in the Evo
Car still looks sick. and TURBO DIESELS can Put Gas engines to SHAME. I seen a turbodiesel truck at capital race way run 10.8s all night! it was a duelie truck that joker was sick!
