Mitsu Needs Eclipse Fix

Mitsubishi has halted sales of the '06 Eclipse after the company received reports of flawed brake systems from its Normal, Ill., plant. Automotive News reports that Mitsubishi reported the problem to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday, noting that up to 1185 vehicle could be involved in the brake issue. The industry weekly says 44 of the vehicles have been sold to buyers, with 400 at dealers and the rest in transit. In the vehicles, a problem with the vacuum brake booster could cause brake failure. Mitsu has not stopped building new Eclipses in Normal, and says the problem could be corrected in production by the end of the week.

Thats what happens when they start manufacturing cars in America.. they should just leave it back in japan where they can pay workers less and they take pride in quality work.. It also keeps the cost of the car down since they only have to add on $800 opposed to over $2000 here just to cover the workers heath care costs..

If the car as made in Japan, it would cost more and NO it isn't becuase it was built in America, it is because it is a 1st run production, there is no mistakes to learn by. Everyone knows that you are not supposed to buy a 1st year run of a car, it has all the problems.

I have to agree here. Us American's don't do the best job building quality cars. Here is a link to Consumer Reports with the Best and Worst cars of 04. Notice the huge disparity between how many American cars are on the Best list compared to the worst.

Here is what we are left with if we want to choose an American car that is reliable.

Buick Regal
Chevrolet/Geo Prizm
Chrysler PT Cruiser
Ford Crown Victoria
Ford Escort, ZX2

Notice one of THE WORST cars in terms of reliability and recalls is Mercedes.

Buick, oddly, is only 1 step below Lexus, go figure

Thats funny you bring that up. Most of the 'best' cars are built in the states. Most of the Hondas are actually put together on US soil. I think Ohio is where their main plant is. All Subaru's are made in Lafayette, Indiana minus the WRX and STI. Most Mitsus come from Illinois. Quite a few of the big "foreign" manufacturers have their cars assembled here.

Those that are 'worst' are actually put together in Canada and Mexico. (All of the GMs)

I beg to differ that American can't put together cars but I DO agree that America can't design cars.

Oh just relax. It's a minor issue that only has happened in a couple cars, causing them to loose their POWER brakes, not their brakes all together.

It's just erroring on the side of caution, rather than just hoping it isn't an issue.

And ontop of it all, the part causing the problem, IS NOT A MITSUBISHI PART, it is a vaccum booster for the master cylinder, provided by some supplier!

Only the cheap foreign cars are made in America. The top of the line cars such as the S600 and all AMGs are built in Germany. The same goes for a lot of foreign car manufacturers.
