bah.. evo + price difference between evo and M3 > M3. The m3 is awesome.. i would love t to get my hands on a brand new one.. but for the price difference you could build an insane machine that would just drop people jaws. I see 10 m3s a day some im hardly humping them as the drive by.

But your statement about the warranty should be taken with a grain of salt. BMW is very **** about their parts and warranty. They will absolutely not cover any part not made by BMW and they will most likely void the warranty for a non-BMW part. Read the manual and it says it explicitly. most likely, your 1800 exhuast system would not be covered under warranty and would be grounds for voiding your warranty. Happy driving.
Unless it was a Dinan part.

From Dinan's web site:

BMW automobiles can now be performance-tuned without the associated concern of negatively affecting the new car warranty coverage, making the idea of enhanced driving fun and excitement appealing to a rapidly growing number of BMW drivers.

agreed. he can also come down here to AZ & take a ride in my buddy's '04 with the SSL package. oh i forgot, it's a 4G64 block, GT35R turbo, 280 cams, & MoTec powered also. i bet he won't be able to peel himself off the leather when that GT35R spools...

Don't get me wrong - the Evo is a great car as a toy. It has great potential, but there are things you can do to any car to make it perform. The native attributes such as quality and composure in all situations are not addressed by the aftermarket.

Ones of my reasons for feeling that way may be due to geography. I live in an intensely traffic-infested area. i would prefer to sit in a quiet and more comfortable car than in loud and tinny one.

Every car manufacturer strives to develop products that appeal to their greatest demographic. The Evo appeals to weekend warriors and adolescents. This is a fact. Sure, there are some exceptions, but those are not the norm. The M3 appeals to people who have come to expect a little more substance and not raw performance. The comparison between the cars may be unfair, but I was not the first to make it.

The exhaust would not be covered, but they are VERY liberal regarding the warranty. I used to run a BMW dealer's service department and BMW believes in taking care of the customer, even at the company's expense.

The dollar factor? Sorry if not everybody can afford a $55,000 car. My point was, that people buy the EVO because of what it offers for it's price. People also buy it, because they are looking for a great performance car. So I mentioned, if you were looking for a car that offered an awesome combination of performance and daily driving then the EVO is not for you, try maybe a M3. Don't fault the EVO on something it was never intended to be, and also dont't fault the EVO on it's price tag.

Imagine if I stated- Well, the M3 is a piece of sh*t compared to the new M5 or Mercedes E55 AMG, how can you poor broke *** motherf*ckers even drive that crap.

You- Well the M3 is in a different class and what it offers for it's price of $55K is great.

Me- The dollar factor is what every M3 zealot uses. You should at least try and be a little more creative when offering an opposing point of view.

It's not even about the price difference, it's about the focus or purpose of the two cars. The EVO and M3 are built for different reasons and usually offered to different customers. It would not be unusual to see someone who owns both. So I ask why compare the two, when they are so different? Of course the M3 is the better built car, it's more expensive and was created for that purpose. The EVO for what it was built for, is very successful. If you bought it for different reasons, than I'm sorry, you were expecting too much from a car that costs only $35K.
