WRX would be my choice, as I'm not a big fan of FWD.... From what it sounds like, the SRT-4 is not as good a build quality most likely won't handle as well as the WRX. It'll kill it from a roll, no doubt, but I guess it just all depends on what your friend wants.

srt-4s can be made faster for cheaper but AWD is very nice.

this has got to be the stupidest comment in the entire thread.

sorry we are no longer selling that particular car. even though your warranty isn't up we aren't going to service your car.

that makes a lot of sence.

my sebing just pasted 78k+ miles. not one problem. (basically an eclipse) at 50k+ i got a letter in the mail asking if i wanted an extended power train warranty upto 120k+. i bought it for $1000. Boy was i glad i did when the tranny went at 79k. even with all the mods on the car Chrysler footed the bill for a new tranny. car runs like a champ.

i just crossed 30k+ in my SRT4. (i have not had to take it to the dealer once.) just got my letter for an extended warranty on my SRT4 also.

as far as which one YOU like better. test drive them both and see what you want.

Let that help your decision.. very typical of any Chrysler car. Happened to me and almost every single neighbor/co-worker I have.

The problem with it being discontinued (along with the entire neon line) is that in the future when your extended warranty needs to be used b/c something broke it is going to be very hard to find enough parts to fix all of these cars. So the price for repairs will increase dramatically since new parts arent being produced anymore.

If you want a stripped down race car, for really cheap, and you live where it doesnt snow then you can live w/ a SRT-4. But if you live in the real world, and you like traction, you dont like picking up chicks and making them "roll down the windows" and you enjoy reliability then get the WRX.

i was originally leaning a bit towards the srt-4 up until you mentioned this. if he plans to keep a car even 2 years or longer, DONT get the srt. I heard the reliability isnt that great. Get a WRX.

if you live in/near the snow then WRX, if you want to mod and keep your warraty and don't mind having FWD (remember everyone that FWD is good if the kid is a begininer), SRT-4 (Mopar Mods), if you like going down the touge, WRX ( FWD has to much wheel hop and such to go down the touges i go down) but if you like going down the main strip in your town and race from stoplight to stoplight, the SRT-4 will be enough. Also if the kid like to drop the clutch and spin tires, get the SRT-4, you'll break the WRX. anyways what car does the kid have now and also I had to make this same desision last year and if you look in my sig, you'll see which way I went

If you learn how to drive then FWD+TURBO shouldnt be a problem.

I've seen a srt4 in my area that already has rust developing.. I gatta get a picture of it once it gets into full swing of the typical chrystler product. Then I'll post it up here. Livin in the motor city is great, they just need to make better quality cars, not quantity. They make such crappy cars, the foreign automakers are outselling them in their own home town. Now they have to run their $8000 rebate specials just to get people to buy them, and they are still losing. They have so much overstock, they don't even have enough room on the lots for the new ones that are being pumped out.

Looks like you are pro "JDM"... of course you hate domestics... do you think your opinion is a tad biased?

what do you drive again.... oh wait.... HAHAHAHAH!

(get the subie... apparently AWD>Jesus)

I would choose the WRX.

There's decent power stock, all-wheel drive, a nice interior plus there's a lot of aftermarket support in case you want to do some stuff to your car.

The boxer engine also sounds quite nice.
