How much for a S13/14 w/ SR20 swap?

Just trying to gauge how expensive it will be for me to do recreational drifting...

how much should I pay for a SR20DET swapped

1. S13 - no body mods/ perfect swap with no problems/ almost new clutch
2. S14 - no body mods/ perfect swap with no problems/ almost new clutch

I'm thinking around $12k sounds resonable for the S14 of course depending on what mods were actually used on the swap SR20...

what prices have you guys seen?

wow that car looks very well done...I would pay good money for his car...but I can do all the exterior stuff myself with my own money...I plan on drifting first...which might lead to some dings and dents...then when I get the handle of it, i'll do the exterior mods...

you know, can't afford to crunch a ING+ front end conversion b/c I ran into a lightpole in the mall parking lot etc....

but how much should I pay for one though? that was my question.

I would highly recommend NOT buying one that has already been swapped. There are serious variations in the quality of swaps, and I'd want to be quite certain mine was done properly. Any hack mechanic with enough tools and time can put an SR20 in a 240 and make it run, but not everyone can do it really well or has the experience to do so precisely.

buy a stock car, nothing done, put an exhaust, intake and a rear l.s.d. till you get real good, keep your money for tires and repairs.. btw this car drifts like a dream.. unfortunatly cause of some *** side swiping him on the highway the car looks like it does..

that's probably the best advice...I know someone here trying to unload a S14 with a turbo KA...I should just beat up on it until I'm read to swap it out for a SR20, new clutch, and better suspension.

Oh, and to answer the original question I usually see people asking $6,000-$8,000 without much other modification done. Obviously it can go way higher and sometimes even lower.

contrauary to what most people say the truck motor that comes in the u.s. cars is a decent motor.. throw a disco potatoe on it, and it will serve you enough power for quite awhile..

umm the ka24 is not a good engine to drift in...because it does not have enough power and it is crappy...but thats me...if you pay 6-8000 for an s13 that only has an sr20 swap then you prolly got played..6-8000 sounds pretty got for an s14 but finding one with no other mods might be hard...IMO the best/cheapest way to go...would to buy a stock s13/s14 and juss buy the sr20 for like 1000-2000(depends on how good you shop around)i bought my 1st 1989 s13 for 1,400 with only 44,000 on it but i had my own sr20 from when i lived in japan..

The KA24 has plenty of power (even without a turbo) to drift, especially for someone just learning. Obviously the power of the SR20DET is nice, but the KA24 is by no means garbage.
