Complete junk in every regard.......ask anyone who has to work on them.

 

I inherited my old mans Camaro SS (99) and it is fun to drive. It is a tradional american muscle car, you know go fast in a straight line. Handling is pretty good considering the size of the car. You can make them really fast for very little $$.

 

I work on mine. The only problem I have is replacing spark plugs. Headers were surprisingly easy.

 

umm, notice I said v6, not 500hp v8.

 

Notice in the first post I said "what do you all think of the LS1/LT1 F-body" 5.7L 346ci. Not the 3.8, 3.4, or 3.1.

 

I have owned several late model F-Bodys both third and forth Gen and thay are awsom cars.

I have owned an 84 Recaro Trans Am, a 94 Vortec blown LT-1 Trans Am and a 00 SS LS1 with light mods. The only problems I had was with the Automatic slush box that was in the blown LT-1, replaced it twice. As for the handling with a set of good coil springs, shocks/struts, and sway bars they will handle very well. I will buy another once I finish my Buick GN

 

pure crap handling, I don't care what anybody says.

 

I'm impressed with the power and mod potential of the cars. However, the car feels like it weights 4500 lbs even though its not even close to that. And the steering is very loose. Now the car may be able to put down decent track times and handling NUMBERS, but it just doesnt feel solid and doesnt inspire confidence. So for those that say, it handles like crap, and others that say, well it holds its own on the track, well IMO, they are both right.

Also I find it annoying that GM put the weak 10 bolt rear end in a solid axle setup that is supposed to benefit drag racing durability. Putting a 12 bolt in would have saved everyone that puts slicks on the car a 2k upgrade.

 

I have a 95 modded Z28 track car that has been bullet proof. It's fast, cheap, and reliable. My street car is an 05 Evo. Yes, I think the 10 year newer Evo is faster in stock form, but the Z28 has been a very entertaining car. Oh yeah, I bought it new for $20,000. Really, it's been a great car. In fact, I'm taking it too the track again tomorrow.

As far as handling goes, I've needed to put stiffer springs and adjustable shocks on it for serious track use. Set up like that it has great grip and balance.

T-body, F-body....its outdated, staightline performance is all you can get out of it. If you have taken an Evo or a Sti out in a turn then good for you. Remember there is no replacement for displacement. You wanna mess with an IMPORT ? Try hittin up a Supra, on turns or staight line it will smoke the T and the F off your body.

 

My previous car was a '98 WS6 - it ran mid 12's at 115mph (with the usual mods for those cars) at the drag strip, and I also ran it at auto-x. It was a blast to drive at both. And unlike some who speak out their *** about it's abilities at such (either 1/4 mile or especially auto-x), without ever trying it themselves (or even having driven a late model 8 cyl f-body), I used the car for both and it fairly competent at either venue. WS6 models did have a slightly tweaked suspension over "regular" versions. Couple pics below....

I just traded in my 01 WS6 for my Evolution. I loved the car. Power was awesome. All i had done was a airlid, mass air flow sensor, smooth bellow, throttle bodie, full exhaust and we did a 13.00 in the quarter at National Trails Raceway in Columbus, OH. We put down around 370 on the dyno right before i sold it. Handling is decent with the WS6 package but nothing like the Evo. Besides those cars are made for highway racing with the top end they have. I also owned a 99 Transam right before i got my WS6.

 

Yes, they most defiently has the top end power the evo does not.
