Why wouldn't you just mod your C6? I would think a TT 427 from lingenfelter would change your mind drastically. Why not just pop in a LS7 crate engine into your C6 vert? All the cars these people are suggesting are definitely not verts or targas. I'd say go for a 04 cobra vert and slap a KB or whipple on it for a good 600 hp. I'd take that over the viper anyday. But thats just me since I have a mustang.

sorry about the targa comment, meant to say cabriolet 997. i have a c6 coupe, not vert, and AT, which was a compromise between me and my fiancé. we both are looking for something sporty but different, and a vert would be nice!
we drove an 06 Cayenne Turbo today, and WOW... i was impressed immensely! the adjustable ride height was amazing, not to mention the other electronic goodies. the handling was evo-ish except with an additional 2500 lbs+.
im just not sure as the route im going to take, as i haven't driven the 911 turbo yet (and yes im a porsche enthusiast as of today!)

I've seen several SL55s and even CL600s going for under 80k used. Not only are these both insanely fast luxo-cruisers, but they are mod friendly and handle well enough for 99% of the population. There are quite a few owners who pull mid 11s with minimal bolt-ons, problem free, and it makes quite a comfy daily driver.
That's my two cents.
