drove the new 911 back to back with evo
I think Two Wheels magazine (british bike mag) ran a little comparison in the 0-100-0 competition. Naturally a GSXR-1000 K5 won, with an Aeriel Atom in second. Surprisingly, the Evo MR beat out the new 2006 911 Carrera S in overall time. Won in 0-30, 0-60, transition from power to brakes and overall breaking. I believe the Porsche beat the Evo to 100mph but then again, like another poster stated, it's something a few mods could fix! I believe Road and Track has the MR going through the slalom faster than the new 911 as well. Do a few power mods, throw a few friends in the back seat, toast a 911 and then have your friends waving out the back window at the 911 driver. Should be quite fun!

Yeah I agree with you on a certain level...it's why I'd never be impressed with a Honda Civic or SRT4 even if it was faster...in the end it's still a Civic or a Neon
But certain cars, including the Evo, do possess that panache even though they don't cost an arm and a leg. They have a vaunted reputation and a much-deserved one that's exasperated by the fact we couldn't get it over here for so long. The GT-R is in the same conundrum. We'd all kill for one even though an 05 MR would school it on the track and drag strip (stock). The Z06, while butt-*** fast, it lacks a certain style the other cars mentioned definitely have. GM will never get it.

not the same class i guess but not that far off i guess. get an 05 with leather, full Infinity speaker system, and i guess if mitsu offered something like nav. or heated seats, u gotta say they are real close to the same category.
SterlingEvo i read old issues of SCC so often, i get them confused sometimes i guess. either way it was a good article! SCC Car of the Year 2 years straight!

well as far as racing goes i will have to be racing my mother if i want someone to race me in a 911s. meanwhile i got to my country club and its full of porches benzs bimmers bently GTs and so on, my evo sticks out like a sore thumb. my father has even attempted to get into someone else range rover thinking it was his that there ares o many of them around. what we lack in class we make up for in speed. i would say we have style in spades, and exclisivity as well. but there is that aura around a porsche or ferrari that we can never touch
It's extremely hard to compare an EVO to a 911. I have both and love both for different reasons. The EVO is a great street car (especially 1/4 mile) up to about 140 mph. It doesn't feel all that solid over 150 mph. As for my 911 turbo, it seems like life just begins at about 130mph and will pull like hell up to 200+ mph and feels much more sure footed at the higher speeds. I love my EVO, but would never give up my 911 turbo for it. The 911 turbo is just one of the purest streets cars in every sense that i have ever driven. I can't wait for my new 997 Turbo due next summer!
