kind of raced an sti today... at the light i was behind him and i had to follow.. but i couldn't pass him after we took off.. he was pretty quick i got even with his rear bumper. i'd have to say really it was a stalemate.. but he might think i was just messing around.. anyway.. the question... the sti didn't have any spoiler at all... so i didn't know if it was an 03-05 model.. is there a way to tell? it looked like an 05 type scoupe on the hood. he had a huge intercooler front mounted.. exhaust atleast catback.. and maybe work emotions or rota torques.. couldn't tell.. but they were black... any ideas?

didn't notice... any rear flare add on... you know i should have taken a pic of it.. my camera was sitting in my passanger seat... it had the newer style fog light covers on it.. i remember that...

There are not to many STi's here in the vacaville area that have frontmounts. i know there are quite a few wrx's.

ok.. anyway.. it was white with pink sti on trunklid and a white guy with a female passanger and an officer sticker... i didn't think to see what plates he had... i'll check out that site...

 

Just from being behind you should see the single tip exhaust on the STI(the WRX has dual tips), Definately the rims and tires looks beefier from behind, the Brembo brakes could be seen from an angle if you are behind and to his side.
The badges from the back are also another indication.

I think you encountered a modded WRX. Normallly you see the STI in the roads with the spoilers in the back, the WRX never came with spoiler in the back from factory except the 03 Sonic yellow edition.

I know my $hit because I had a 03 Sonic Yellow edition for two years and I had a lot of Subaru owners friends. Like I said, I believe you encountered a modded WRX

 

whatever it was it was pretty modded.. i know about the dual tips.. but the exhaust was modded... i kind of thought it was a wrx because it didn't have a spoiler.. i didn't think they'd take off their plastic spoiler.. but who knows.. i just want to know what that guy was running... because i've never played with a sti or wrx until now..

 

it could have been an sti. i know a few guys that took there wings off to attract less attention and to confuse guys they race. i guess it works.

 

My bro had an 05 STi...he took off the rear spoiler within 3 weeks of owning the car.

u probably encountered an sti- a lot of people take off wings... my 05 sti is scoopless and wingless- complete w/ a 2.5 rs trunk... if the car had rear brembos, it's probably an sti- it takes a LOT of work to get the rear brembos onto a wrx (front brembos are bolt on).
