Poor Boxster
Loj68 is correct, as I've driven an 05 Boxster"S" on the Morosso road course in South FL. and they handle VERY well and are very quick. We entered turm #2 from a 130 mph. I tend to agree that they are not the most impressive Porche, but they handle very well(at least the 2005 "S" does)to say the least. However, I'm looking forward to racing one in my 05 Evo!

I was gonna reply to everything here but your very last sentence clearly shows you have no idea what you're talking about. I've got a Best Motoring vid you might want to borrow sometime called "996 Turbo The King". Not to mention a Boxster S costs as much as a base 911 so calling it a "poor mans porsche" is just ignorant. The Boxster is more of a traditional porsche than anything in their entire lineup.......but like I said you don't know anything about them apparently so I suggest you read up.
THe Boxster is a mid-engine car, and like most mid-engine cars, they handle extremely well. loj68 understands this. Some others don't. It's a newer version of the 914, which was another mid-engine Porsche.
I liked the boxster, handled really well and was fun sliding the tail into corners, lacks power though but was a car that made you smile.
I was able to push the boxster more then a 911, maybe cause it breaks traction much earlier then the 911

I drove the poor mans Porsche (85.5 944), Now I drive the rich mans Mitsubishi (04 EVO VIII). People thought I had a larger bank roll when I had the 944. The lancer gets no respect untill you blow their doors off.

Yeah, the image sticks in non-enthusiasts heads. People still ask me why "you got rid of your 'Porsh'?!??" I had a Boxster S. It was a real Porsche alright. With all the troubles and expensive maintenance that goes with it. Bang for the buck it is not. But it's a great roadster and I loved driving it.

The base Boxster is definitely not impressive from a power perspective. The chassis, however, is respectably stiff and the suspension is well designed. When it was first released it was well received and Porsche was drawing parallels to the 550 Spider.
Sadly the image it developed since then has really classified the car. It became known for cruising Rodeo Drive on a nice day -- woman in the driver’s seat, scarf, sunglasses and lots of makeup with shopping bags and hat boxes in the passenger seat. She would have been fine in a Miata but a Porsche is much more of a status symbol. This image, although somewhat unwarranted, also taints the S.
The Boxster was designed by Porsche to fulfill a need they saw in the market. It has sold admirably and it is one of the reasons that Porsche is doing as well as they are. It is Porsche’s roadster; an up market Miata for fun in the sun; something to be seen in. Is it a capable sports car? Absolutely! It is a Porsche. In this case, though, it is like someone buying a Jeep. They can point to the off-road capability they will never use to help justify why they bought it when in fact all it will ever be is a grocery getter.
True enthusiasts understand the Boxster but also know that the 911 is where the real performance and pedigree lies. Granted you could take the Boxster and turn it into a respectable track car with the appropriate mods; but why when you could just buy a 911. Porsche would have to de-feminize it and turn it into a coupe to hold my interest… Oh wait, that is the new Cayman
A Boxster compared a 1980 Porsche 911 Turbo is “A Porsche with panties”.

lol......Porsche didn't even start putting turbo's in those until the mid 70's. We'll tell old Ferdinand that his 550 Spyder (my all time dream car), 356, 930, etc, etc were just "fake" Porsches.
