Muscle Car Question
A Friend just bought a 69 Pontiac Firebird with a 462 Cubic Inch Motor and A list of Other goodies. It has supposedly (verfied thru slips ) ran an 8.3 in the 1/8 Mile with a 1.9 60ft time.
I haven't tracked my Car but plan on it. I am wondering what the outcome would be if these two bad boys were to hook up?
I currently have 330AWHP// 330AWTRQ . ( Dynojet)
Also, If anyone knew what his E.T would be that would be sweet. Thanks For reading.

It's hard to say. You don't give me to much to work with. All I can say is that a 462 Poncho is no joke. Back in the day I had a 455 Pontiac that pushed 750hp and 813 ft/lbs of torque. That motor managed to completly twist my 1973 Camaro beyond repair. I wanted to be different when I built my Camaro - that's why I stuck a Pontiac engine in it. I love Poncho powerplants to this day. When I built my Pontiac the aftermarket did not offer cool things like the Edelbrock aluminium heads of today. I had a set of Ram Air III's that were seriously reworked. My Camaro had sub frame connecters, SSM lift bars, Dennys aluminum driveshaft, and a GM 12 bolt rear with a Moroso brute strength diff, Richmond 4.11 gears, and Strange axles. The trans was a TCI turbo 400 with a TCI street fighter 10" torque converter. The trans had a full manual valve body. My engine was a 455 Pontiac block with a stock crank, Oliver rods, a set of TRW forged pop-up pistons that along with the cylinder head combustion chamber size gave me roughly 12.5:1 compression ratio, a set of seriously ported and polished Ram Air III heads with oversize Manely ProFlow valves, Chevy style screw in studs, 3 angle valve job on intake - 5 angle on exhaust, guideplates, and a set of Harland Sharpe roller rockers. The cam was a custom gound Isky with 347 adv duration, 289 at .050 duration, 612 lift. I had a Edelbrock Vic Jr. intake with a Holley 750 Dominator carb. The ignition was a Mallory Unilite with a MSD 7 Series ignition box and MSD wires. The exhaust was Hooker Super Comp headers, 3 inch pipe, H pipe, Flowmaster mufflers.
Just to give you an idea that above setup in a full body 73 Camaro with the 10 inch wide M&H Racemaster street slicks ran a best of 10.10@134mph. The car was a beast and only lasted a year of drag racing before the body twisted so bad that the front widshield almost popped completely out the car. There are many other details about that car but it would take way to mush time to list them all here. Your friends 462 is actually a stroker 455 so that thing should scream, it all depends on how it's built. A 8 something second 1/8mile should be a mid to high 12 second 1/4.

Torque would be 500 at 2800 rpm and 365 HP at 4600< these figures are not to the wheels.
I would say if you launch good then it would cancel out his torque. On the top end i think you would have a slight advantage. It would be close. BUt id say the 69 firebird unless you do amazing shifts. His car is def in the mid 12's,maybe low 12's. But if u shift flawlessly, u can hit low 12's.

Yeah I know, for some reason I had the 428 - which is a popular Pontiac engine in my mind. Don't ask how I came up with 426 - ? And yes, the 462 is a stroker 455. You can't get that big with just overboring.

You are right, the 462 is a 30 over 455, I'm tierd. I live in Oak Harbor and wanted a cat back for my new MR. I was going to get the Greddy Titanium exhaust. Anyway, I drove all the way down to Horsepower Freaks in Portland because I wanted the catback today, I did'nt want to order it. When I got there they were closed. They close at 5pm and I got there around 5:30. The round trip was about 9 hours long so forgive me - I am not of sound mind and body. I am actually going to bed now.
Well, he tells me that the car isn't built powerfully. From what I understand, It is a 462 without major performance upgrades and has an airbag system installed for ride height .
The 8.3 in the 8th was with slicks. It is now on BF Goodrich regular radials, which from what I understand isn't that great. He has also said thart the topend isn't what he was expecting leading me to beleive that I DO have the advantage. I am thinking DE-cat will give me more than a better advantage but we'll see

A mild 462 in a car that has a curb whieght of around 3500 lbs should be no match for your evo. On a Pontiac, the heads are everything. If this guy is running a set of bone stock Pontiac cylinder heads - forget it. He better at least have a set of Ram Air II or III heads. If I were to build a 462 today it would have the Edelbrock aluminum heads which out the box blow away just about any worked stock head. There are many tricks to building a powerfull Poncho and it dose'nt really sound like your friends Firebird will have what it takes to beat your EVO.
Just a little FYI. The 455 is actually a stock stroker motor. The 455 is actually a 400 engine with a massive stroke on the crank. The 455 has the same cylinder diameter as the 400 which is 4.115 inches if I remember correctly. So your friend has a 30 over factory stroker motor. Because of the massive stroke on a 455 crank, the engine does not rev very fast. Also, because of the size of Pontiac main journals, Pontiac engines don't rev that high either. Redline on my 455 was around 6500. Most stock or mildly modified Pontiac's would'nt even see that.

If he hasnt upgraded the heads and cam on that engine his car will prob. fall on its face on the last half of the quartermile; he prob. wont run no better then low 13s; . Like Hannibal said they dont rev that high, most of those engines came with peanut cams with no duration to support higher rpms; and heads that cannot flow good enough to support higher rpms. They are just torque monsters; also what gears is he running in the rear end, 3.42, 3.73, 4.10?
From what he has told me , the heads are the ram III's, with stock ( or equivelent) camshaft. He plans on aluminum Heads (I think he said vortech) I am not sure what kind. He has also said that the trq is out of control but it falls horribly top end. He has said that the redline is in the 5500 range but that it takes along time to get there.
He has said 4.10's in the rear but he has also said that he has a ford 9 inch that makes it easier to swap better gears. He actually just bought the car off ebay for 12k
He is currently on his way home from oregon , driving it back down to southern california (17 hr drive) evidently it has some quirks but he wouldnt get into details for fear I would re-iterate that it was a bad idea to buy this car. I need to call him now to get his update and make sure he is okay.
any questions I should ask?

UPDATE:
REAR END GEARS 3.25 , with 28inch tall tires.
RAM AIR CAM
RAM AIR III heads ( plans to upgrade EDELBROCK ALUM HEADS.)
REDLINE : 5100 ( he says he can Push it to 5500 but thats crazy)
Also has ride adjustment shocks (???) where there is a vavlestem under the License plate where you pressurize the system it alters ride height.

455 - 4.152X4.21
Close, they were most likely just bored over at factory, but if so if there still enough material to do 30 over again?
Kilterman, it sounds like he is running close to stock cam and heads, if so that thing will not be able to breathe well at all. At this point I def think you could take him. That thing puts out 350hp at most, which in a car like that means it won't be very fast. Thinking like low 13's on street tires.
