Need some feedback on next car!!

Once I've paid my Evo off I'm looking to buy a second car again. I just recently sold my 87 turbo FC. I'm gonna be buying an early 90's car of some sort because I enjoy wrenching on older cars much more and well I just plain like older cars thus my chocie in the old FC. These are the cars I'm debating between.

1993 Yellow R1 RX-7- Fell in love with Rx-7's several years ago. This was the other car I fell in love with along with the evo's I,II,III,IV and so on. I have experience with these so I'm not afraid of owning a rotary like some people and yes this will not be my daily driver and will most likely be garage pretty much always.

1993-1995 Yellow or White Turbo MR2- I'm a big fan of 2 seater's. I like the MR setup and I'd love to drive with the T-Tops off with the wind in my hair. Plus these sound fricken amazing.

1994-1995 White 300zx Turbo- Very cool looking car. It'd be nice to own a v6 for the first time, always had rotary's or 4 cylinders. Pain in the butt engine to work on which I like the challenge.

What you guys think? Let me hear the 2 cents and all that good and bad stuff.

If I were you I'd consider a used NSX also. Much more reliable than the cars listed and with age on the car you should consider it

Considering you can pick one up for around $20g's in good condition that's actually not bad advice.

Of the cars you mentioned though I guess I like the Z.

That's a tough one. I'd be very torn between the Z and RX-7. They both have pretty decent aftermarket support so, you would have some choices in modding. I don't know that much about the aftermarket for the MR-2. I always liked the look of the last body style but, it is not in the same class as the other two cars IMO.

OK first off I can get an Rx-7 in good condition for less than 20k and same for the Z they are cheap compared to the NSX which would cost 20-35k. If I was willing to spend that money I'd buy a Supra. And for the last guy commenting on the MR2, they don't have much of an aftermarket like the 300zx and rx-7 have.

The FC was my favorite RX-7 by far.

You really don't know much about the mr2 then. They might not have the aftermarket support that the 300z and the rx7 have, but you can still get anything that you need for these cars. If it was me, I would go with the mr2. mid-engine, rear wheel drive, with a turbo charged engine that supports 400+ hp on stock internals. Doesn't get much better than that. The only problem is that the 1993-95 are some what rare, and there has been a rise in popularity of the mr2 and they are starting to get a little pricey.

I guess it all depends on what you want from it. A daily driver, or a garaged car like you mentioned the RX-7 would be, and i assume the Z as well.

If I had a flat out choice between all of your options I'd go RX-7...just because I love those.

If you fell in love with EVOs and RX-7s, and you already have an EVO...wouldn't it make sense to get the other loved car? I like Black though. But, yeah..thats my $0.02

Jmi11 thats what I've been thinking, and I'm looking at garaging the car for a good chunk of it's life since I have my evo as a daily driver. I do know a fair amount about MR2's but when I was critizing the aftermarket for them you have to consider that the 300zx and rx-7 have alot more backing plus I come from owning a DSM and now an Evo so you can see why I'm not impressed with the MR2's support but ya I know its a capable machine none the less.

mr2 will be hard to find, but that is what I'd try to get. The price for a 93+ is rising and probably will keep rising. It will be somewhat of a collectors car I guess and if you ever decided to sell, you'd get a good deal. The 300zx would be my last choice, can be found for relatively cheap compared to the others in decent shape.

mr2>fd>300zx

I personally was looking to buy a RX7 or 300zx but figured my MR was faster. Anyway, the NSX is actually a really great car. Hand built, Titanium rods, all aluminum, and honda reliability. I was also thinking about supra but rather have a NSX since i consider it a classic.

I'm just not a huge fan of the NSX despite it being a revolutionary car that to even today's standards is in a class of its own but I didnt even consider this car a choice for me, and living in Ohio I'd be surprised if anyone in Ohio even owns an NSX so I would most likely have to make a long hike to find one. I can find Mr2's. Rx-7's and 300z's relatively close. I'm only 19 so there's no way I can afford an NSX and Evo at the same time. I'm just leaning more towards the Rx-7 because I've owned an FC in the past and I love this car.
I guess I should be more specific what I'm using the car for. Basically I'm looking to build an all around good car. It'll be garaged along with the evo all the time and will not see winters. I'll definitely look into having body work done to the car as in possibly RE-Amemyia or 99 Spec body for the Rx-7 or JDM body for 300zx, for the Mr2 I'd do small changes nothing to the extent of the other cars. I'm looking to build the car to be able to run a 12.5 or so in the 1/4 mile and make an impressive street car that can also do its fair share of track racing. Imagine SportCompactCar Street Car Challenge, looking to build something along those lines even though I have no intention of competing in something like that. BTW I should be able to do most of the work on my car myself considering I'm a mechanic and have lots of resourses at my disposal along with plenty of fellow mechanics that can help me.

RX-7 motor will not last long unless built properly. MR2 has wicked handling unless you buy the last model year when they fixed it. Numerous magazines crashed the 2nd gen MR2. 300ZX horrible stock brakes (warp easy) and soft suspension. That is my criticism even though I would buy all three to mod. Nice choices. My friend at work has 830whp in his 300ZX TT.

My vote goes to the RX-7 and make it a Spirit R look a like with jdm steering wheel and front end

Just make sure the engine is in great shape and know of a local mechanic that knows rotories if your not a specialist yourself
