Mazda 6= Awd 271 Hp Turbo Charged
Reasons to buy MS6 over Evo, imho.
I'm a big guy. The seats in the Evo are horrible for someone my size.
I'm an older guy. I don't like 19 year olds in civics ogling me every time I drive.
I'm a relaxed driver. I prefer a softer suspension setup and I don't value cornering performance very much.
I'm a fan of creature comforts. I like leather seats and sound deadening.

There was a MS6 driving 30mph in front of me on a 1 lane 35mph road for like 2 miles this morning. I wuz pissed! I wasn't tailgating (maybe 2 cars back), but for some reason after about 2 miles he decided to try and pull on me. With him flooring it (black smoke a'flowin') I still pulled right up to his bumper. It was funny (to me)... They're nice cars, though.

I have a Mazdaspeed 6 that Mazda gave to us a couple months ago. In fact, it's the same exact silver car that was in the C&D comparison test last month (I recognized the license plate #s
). It's a good car with no real aftermarket yet (that's the job they informally assigned to me.) Suspension isn't harsh by any sporting standards. It's just not as plush as a VW or Honda. It is way softer than any EVO, almost to a fault since the rest of the car is so sporty (great power and very good brakes). In the wet or snow, the power-on handling balance is remarkably tail out (and lots of fun). On the dry, with too much grip, the car tends to understeer more than it should. Power is excellent.. especially in the midrange. Top end is softer than it should be but that should be fixable. Overall, it's not really an EVO/STi competitor. It's aimed squarely at the Subaru Legacy turbo. But its just a lot quicker.

Motor Week or Car & Driver did a comparison between this and the Subaru Legacy. They preferred the handling of the Mazda but the Legacy was faster in every respect. They liked the Suabru better and there's also more aftermarket available for it as well
The Mazdaspeed6 uses a K04 turbo and because of that, the fast spooling turbo lacks in top end. With the DISI and the K04, the 280 Ibs of torque is achieved around 3000 rpms...
The MSP6 is in no way as harsh as the Evo.
