there is a v8 that's coming out shortly.
but turbo would be fun in that car.
I don't see why you can't put a turbo kit in it.
But is it worth the time, money and effort?
wouldn't it be easier to just buy another evo?

I assumed the "good" forced induction version would be supercharged like the cobalt SS.
I would prefer a supercharged S2000

it's about equal to the miata in most tests... the miata has a lot of years of history and tweaking to make it the great car that it is today. the sky and solstice are the same car and are based off a vauxhall roadster that was never produced, not even close to the elise. I mean the elise is rear engine RWD, sky and solstice front engine rwd. The ecotec engine in those cars have been pushed to 700 HP on gas in drag racing but no one has come anywhere near that on the street so who knows. it seems to be great engine but waiting for the sky (which is much nicer and only $2-3k more for the same equipment) and even the sky redline (turbo model) would be well worth it! Unless you want to go with the Mallett performance Solstice which is only $37k ($19k for the car and $18k for the conversion) for a 400 hp V8 and weighs 500 lbs less than a vette. Pretty good deal IMO!Originally Posted by bobaab
that car is supposed to rival the miata, so who knows. Is the Soltice sharing the same platform as the Saturn Sky? The Sky is actually using the Lotus Elise chassis, from what I hear (that's what a friend told me). If all this is true, all those cars have a great potential chassis wise, but I don't know anything about the engine that is in the Solstice or the Sky.

But If you want to, really really want to, you could get a miata and drop a LS1 engine in it.
Supposely a tight but good fit.

Aftermarket turbo kits for miatas are good (flyin miata) and horrible (greddy). Supporting the turbo kit correctly is the key to keeping a miata running.
The solstice is a nice car. I've had a few miatas and have driven the solstice. Tough choice, the solstice is above typical gm quality, we'll see how they hold up over time though.
Mazda's mazdaspeed miata was a let down to most, we'll see what they come up with to match the turbo solstice. I have seen two pics so far, both look good, but mazda has always been conservative with miata power offerings. The current engine being talked about is the 2.3l turbo from the new mazdaspeed 6 sedan. 230ish seems likely. That has potential.
This thread is like a cingularity for dumb comments. It just seems to be sucking them in. We're well under the 25% worthwhile post mark already.
Just about any combustion engine can be turbocharged, and if you'd looked around before posting this thread you could have seen multiple threads on the Solstice, Sky, and the forced induction variants of both.
EDIT: So naturally I spell it "Cingularity" instead of "Singularity."

wait for the turbocharged GXP version. Then i'd buy one. If I could fit in it. (being 6' 3" isn't always a good thing

Here's my pics I took of the Solstice GXP Turbo.. (260hp)

I wish GM made more RWD Ecotec platforms. I'd love to play with one in a tuner capacity. If the Cobalt weren't FWD I'd be on it like white on rice.

yes you can turbo it! its a standard ecotec motor, if im not mistakin. meaning that with just a little bit of modificaion, you can run one of several turbos kits (including turbonetics) on it

well the issue is trying to get one at even close to sticker... they were going for 10k over msrp here 2 months ago, and wait times for placing an order are just under a years time.
exterior wise it looks nice, until you sit in it. horribly cheap plastics galore.
yes its a decent roadster for the price, and unique looking. however if i were looking at that sort of car, i would get a previous gen mazda speed miata (considering the gxp isnt out).

What's funny to me is that he asked if he could turbo it, and there's a blurb about the Turbo GXP version in the bottom right corner of the Pontiac page he linked to.
