For real guys, the WRX is a waste. I haven't even mentioned the $4000 I spent to repair the tranny twice!!

imo the wrx is a great car for the money! and the blocks normally go at about 300-350 and.. not no the tranny isnt perfect... lol but honesty is the Evo's.... NOPE we have bad clutchs and bad TC's
now i'm NOT saying the WRX is as good as the EvO or anything of the sort.
but i AM saying that the WRX shouldnt just be put off to the side... just bc a car doesnt respone to mods like a DSM/EVO does... doesn't mean it's trash... i mean the M3 with a DINAN intake gets like 3-4 whp ... but that doesnt mean the M3 blows.

Im driving my stock WRX as a daily driver.. the reason why i choosed this car was the nearly unbeatable price to value factor.
Ok it looks ugly and dosent respond well to mods, but a used evo would cost me more then twice, where i live.

No, you do not have friend's with WRX's putting close to my numbers with their stock WRX's. You are misleading the forum here, either your friends are lying to you and/or you are erroneously giving the wrong person(me) the wrong information.
I want to clarify that you are probably intending to say that you have friends that dream and keep dreaming that their stock turbo WRX's can make the same power as I was making on my modded WRX.
Let me put it this way, the highest Dyno numbers on WRXs on stock turbo are around 250ish and that means with just about every single mod you can get out there.

Ditto that. I had an 04 WRX wagon that made 295 whp with $8300 put into it. To quote myself from an earlier thread on EvoM:
I have a 2004 WRX that makes 295whp @21psi on 93oct (before alky). Let's break down the cost of what it took to get there (prices approximate):
vf22 turbo (ceramic coated) $799
Hyperflow FMIC w/stainless piping $1150
Walboro 255 pump $75
STi injectors 565cc $495
Upgraded BOV $300
Hyperflow Intake $260
Defi BF gauges ~$800
Uppipe/header $550
TBE $1150
UTEC with 17psi, 19psi, 21psi maps: $1075
Dyno tune/road tune $250
~20 hours of labor $1400
Total cost: $8305
That DOESN'T include the suspension work I did (~700) or the wheels ($1500) or Stoptech rotors/lines ($600).
The WRX is fast enough with the mods, but it's under a lot of stress with those mods on the stock clutch/tranny/block.
Looking at this list, I really don't think there's a much cheaper path to 300whp on a WRX. You might be able to trim $1000 on parts and save on labor if you can insall yourself, but that's about it.
My points are:
1. I'm glad my girlfriend doesn't know about this site.
2. I know the WRX is not the STi, but DANG the Evo makes some awesome power
and maintains serious driveability.
3. I'm ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED I made the right decision by throwing down a
deposit on an Evo IX last week.
4. I can barely keep myself together reading this thread because all I want is a
(moderately) reliable daily driver with 375ish whp, and that's gonna happen easily with an Evo IX.
I'm with fromWRXto Evo, DITCH any idea of getting a WRX if you're gonna mod it. I could have easily bought an Evo with the $$ I spent on modding my WRX. The WRX is not fast and it is not mod friendly like an Evo. The WRX was considered fast when it came here 3-4 years ago, but times have changed. Get an Evo.

Thanks Bernardo!!
I get irritated when people makes comments like: "I have friends that makes similar power with stock turbo.."
People don't know what they are talking about. My car was tuned by AZscoobie(Clark) at Dyno-comp(Phoenix). You know that AZscoobie is for the Subaru community the analogy of Al on the Evo's world .
My car rolled in with 211whp untuned and $6000 in engine mods alone, I rolled out of the shop with 280WHP(not bad) considering I was on 91oct and it was 06 June 04 in Phoenix..HOT!!!
Anyway Bernardo , thanks for bringing a true, realistic experience point of view.

If you put me 3 years back in the past, I would have never, ever ever put a bigger turbo upgrade on the WRX.
The stocker turbo on the WRX is plenty of fun when you do the right mods(full exhaust indluding up-pipe, mbc, cai, tune)
Carlos
The Evo IX makes the case that much stronger for an Evo. I'm supportive of Subaru, they make an awesome car and I drive one for my winter car. My mom has an Outback and my best friend has an STi. I just think that the Evo really raised the bar for turbo performance cars.
The stock tires on the WRX suck, and they would have to be changed if any type of track event was going to happen. If your friend wants to ECUtek it or flash it and do an exhaust, he can make mid-200whp for about $1500. It's gonna take a major chunk of change to get much more whp than that...
I'm into modding my cars, and in hindsight I think it's been proven that you have to have very deep pockets to make a WRX even approach a stock Evo.

I would absolutly buy another WRX. Its not fair to compare it to an evo or sti. Not even the same league. I spent under 2grand and ran the same numbers as wrxtoevo. Some people go overboard and buy every part available for the car but they dont make it any faster. They are awesome in the winter and with a couple of bucks they will beat most cars at the track. Except evos and sti's. The other thing is that sound of a boxer eng. The thing I miss the most about the wrx is that exhaust tone.
If you read sport compact it has been one of thier 8 great rides for under 30gs every year since it came out.
