I dont think they are comparable. Isn't the VR4 twin turbo 3.0 V6 twin turbo AWD w/ center diff and traction control..Is this a daily driver for you?

Ok... I will give you the heads up. 3KGTs... They are a type of DSM reguardless of where they were built. Same designers, engineers, parts.... And they act just like DSMs (Eclipses, Talons). Thus, major PITA. But, on the otherhand, since they act/are DSMs, if you know what your are doing in the DSM world, they are no harder to work on than an Eclipse or Talon.

First.... get a 93 or better as they have forged cranks.
Some people like the five speed of the 93-96 better than the six of 97-99.
3000GTs always look better than Steath (IMHO)
Sealths have less to break. (no active aero, no AWS)
Trannys are impossible to get parts (get a smooth shifting one)

Anyway, get the VR4 to start, you will save major money than starting with a N/A.

Also, I wouldn't get one as a DD just cause they are now starting to get fairly old and will give you all sorts of headaches, but as a fun car, should be great.

BTW: I currently own a 90 TSi, a 99GSX, 91 Stealth N/A, and a 93 VR4 and have the hand scars to proove it. ;-)

DSM? 3000GT/Stealth? Can we get anyoen to back that claim up? I can offer this info, the older ones are pre-OBDII which allows a much easier extraction of power. Im still interested by the DSM comment. I would question the validity of it, only because if it shared DSM parts and designs why dont more DSM based shops offer parts/work on them?

Good questions... DSM was a vehicle manufacturing division jointly owned by the Chrysler Corporation and the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Star_Motors)

Sure, they weren't built in Normal. but they are so similar and came out of the same engineering head quaters (Japan). It really depends on your definition of "DSM." Too me, it means the partnership that Mitsu and Chrysler had. So any of the same cars that had different badges/labels could almost be looked at as DSMs. IMO. THat being so, 91-92 Galant VR4s are often refered to as DSMs but they came strictly from Japan. Obviouly they are alot closer to the TEL family than the 3kgt but still very much part of the DSM world.

ALot of DSM shops offer parts and service for VR4s. I think Buschur and Extreme both used to offer parts and service for 3kgts. It is a pretty quite scene now that the cars are getting older. I am pretty sure David had/has a 3kgt for a daily driver. Even the many 3kgts make a showing at the DSM shootout.

Thats my thoughts.

I own a Vr4 its a 91
I basically put dr 500s which are a little bigger than dsm automatic 13G turbos, methanol injection and a front mount. Most of the parts like IC I fabricated myself which was a pain in the *** if you ask me. Anyway point of this post is that they are nice, but if something breaks you are going to pay out your *** to fix them unless you have enough mechanical skill to fix them yourself. Also there are very few vendors out there for these cars, which of course jacks the price up on things.. like a simple FMIC kit will cost you no less than 2k unless you get in some group buy

My vr4 WAS for sale here is a thread to show you what all you can do to them but since my timing belt took a **** and bent a bunch of valves... you can just imagine how pissed I am at the car

http://www.xceedspeed.com/forums/vie...r=asc&start=20
look in the thread for pictures of the car

Well said, I dont agree with the DSM designation but I can see your arguements. Remember though the Galant, while the VR-4's were assembled in Japan, was the basis for the Eclipse platform. Regular Galants and Eclipses have always shared manufactoring facilities at Normal as well. I guess its all in a personal definition. Getting back to the main topic, I always had a thing for Stealths, mainly because they were less common in my area. Plus the Satin Silver finish on the stock RT Turbo rims was and always will be my favorite finish for a rim.
