Volkswagen jetta's

Ive allways liked jettas, and its about time I get my first car so Ive been thinking about getting a 02-05 used gli vr6. The only problem is, when I search for volkswagen forums I see A LOT of people posting with problems they are having.

I have a friend with a gls 1.8t and the only problem hes had is a broken gas gauge (and he doesnt exactly take extream care of his car) Does anyone have a jetta or know anyone who does? What do you guys think of them? Good first car yay or nay?

bad experiences with Volkswagen, but maybe they've changed... my dad used to have a Passat and the repairs were unreasonable. Then again that was a few years ago.

VW has come along way, I got rid of my lancer and now have an 03 jetta gls 1.8t. Knock on wood, I have not had a single problem as of yet. Its a great car and a quick one at that. Most of the problems that have occured with the VW's were mainly due to people not taking care of them, yunno like driving around with no oil in it and such. As for the build quality, I disaggree with SEVEN. Excellent build quality, you can feel the differance just by sitting in it compaired to the lancer, so many more welds. The interior is GREAT, its stylish and has many little things that make you say german engineering is good. I hope SEVEN isn't compairing the jetta to an EVO b/c even the jettas interior is 100% nicer than the evo's and if you get the GLI you also get recaros. That is just my opinion, I have a VW now and love it much more than my Lancer. Dont get me wrong I still love the EVO

....Any way my vote is to get a VW but I would recommend you get a 1.8T jetta GLI, b/c with a few simple mods it will be much faster than the VR6

I had to Jettas. I had and 86 Jetta that lasted for 196,000 miles and a 91 that lasted for a 175,000 miles. The only big problem I ever had was with the a/c system stopped working.

I totaly agree with you with the interior, they are verry verry nice specialy the recaros. This guy wants to sell me his 03 vr6 with 69k for 9.5 grand. The only problem is its white and has a biggg scratch on the back bumper =(. Im going to go look around for a 1.8t with low low miles if possible and look into that.

If not then a jeep grand cherokee =-)

yea go with the 1.8T, the VR6 is really nice and its all motor power, but if you wanna get more power out of it is gonna be $$$$$$$, with the 1.8t, a $500 chip will get you between 40-50 horse and 40-50 tourque

Vw's are a lot like Evos. Most people have a few smaller problems...a vocal few have a LOT and post all over the internet about them. My brother's Passat was flawless for 50k miles and he beat the crap out of that car. Probably had 200 drag passes on it.

Looks clean, but I wouldn't take the risk, could have major problems. Is the warranty still good?>

Im not sure about the warrenty, but they are right in PA im in MD so i could drive up there and test it out. Theres something weird about their feedback tho, they have some bad feedback but it gets turned over by ebay, so their overall is still verry high. It prolly be best to go up there and see how it is. From the pictures it seems pretty leet
