EVO owners that have or would own a 350Z
Anyone here own a 350Z in the past? or would own one? Why and why not. Can they break 13's stock? The consumer guides havent ranked the 03's very good as far as reliability goes.
i would have considered a base Z with S-Tune Dampers, exhaust and the R-Tune Mechanical LSD. Lots of performance for little money. In the end though, i'm in love with the evo.

They can do a high 13 stock with a pretty good driver. Average drivers will probably run about a 14.0-14.3 depending on how good or bad they are.
Very, very hard to mod and extract power from. NA mods don't really do a whole lot for them. If you really want to make any power you're going to have to go FI with a ST, SC, or TT kit which will run a lot of money. Then to really be comfortable with that kind of power, most people will tell you to build the motor. Apparently it's not too hard to snap a rod on a Z.
And 03 was not a good year for them. A lot of problems have been fixed with the later year models though. Not a bad car stock, but probably not the best choice if you're looking to mod.

I heard that some bolt ons actually decrease power in the car. It's a shame the modability is crap unless it's forced induction and though they make decent power numbers I have seen the FI Z's in action and against a stock LS1, it had BARELY a car length on it.

I wonder what kind of gains you could expect by going all motor, no forced induction. Sure it is a bit more expensive than bolt ons however you can be sure of strong internals and gain some good HP in the process without dumping $4000-7,000 into a FI kit.
I thought about getting a G35 6MT before the evo. Then i drove both back to back and the evo blew it away in every category except for one. The interior, the g35 had a big navigation screen that i was really liking. But then i thought about it and decided im still young, ill get the evo and have fun while i still can. By fun i mean go to the track all day, spend everypenny i earn into mods/maintence for my baby cause god knows the wife that i may get one day will never understand.
Just my .02 cents

I dont like the Z, it was a flop. I just didnt care for the way it drove. Not to mention a pain in the A$$ to modify. Price vs performance the Z was not worth it I thought. Thats my opinion.

big gains all around on that car can be had from weight reduction. Strip it and get a carbon hood and you'll have hundreds of pounds. Lowering the weight does so much for every aspect of the car and its easy.
I rode in a convertable Z and thought the door line was too high, making for an uncomfortable situation. Ie, if you wanted to stick your elbow out the window, my elbow was at shoulder height or maybe a little higher. I'm about 6Ft, so its not like I'm short, but it made you feel like it. It was just a weird feeling.
I moved from a 03 Z to a IX. The Z was a great car handled well and was quick. I ran a 13.0 at 100 stock. They are very hard to mod. NA you will see almost zero gains and for almost a $1000 dollors for a true duel cat back. No thanks. I kept mine fairly stock because the only was to get real power out of it is to go FI which can be anywhere from $7000 to $10000+ when all is said and done. The best part of the vehicle was the looks and the handling. It does underteer to much and needs more grip stock but has good potential. I must say that I have no regrets coming from the Z to the EVO. And I can't wait to buy my Warrtalon/Buschar Package!!!! I just wish that the 10 year mitsu warranty came with lifetime Advans too!
