I have a friend with a 2004 Cavalier Coupe, auto with 30k, no power windows, locks or mirrors, pretty base. It has a long repaired but not completely gone keyed scratch on the passenger side door and that is about it. He is asking $8300 and it books for $7500 "good" condition private sale kelley blue book. I think he is Fin crazy to ask that much. What do YOU think? His defense is that for those people who see in Autotrader that dealerships are asking $10,000 for the same car then it should be easy to sell his.

wow! 8300? Is he nuts? A freind of mine had an '04 with full kit, air ride, system, 18s, TVs, carbon fiber stuff, you know all the ricer goodies and it only had like 22k miles on it and I think he got 10 for it. But that was with like 8 grand in mods plus the price of the car. I would say a base Cavelier with that milage from a private seller would be about 7k like you said. Plus they are a dime a dozen so if you don't get a deal from him just go out and get a deal from someone else who isn't trying to ask too much.
The funny thing is, the Cav is a fairly popular tuning car in Japan. Here it's just cheap domestic A to B transportation. I'm sure I wouldn't make much money selling teh fazt zomfg USDM parts to Japanese teens though. I'd like to think they're smarter than us in that respect.
