Question EVO vs. STI?

A question that is really annoying many Evo Car owners. Which car will prevale?

Does anyone have any Views if the STI will own the EvoVIII?

I want this descussion to be unbiased, I am all for the Evo but lets step out of that and look at them from a neutral view point.

I hope EVO owns the STi..

its time for Mitsubishi to get a victory in these wars and show all those ignorant Suby punks who makes the real rally cars.

I mean Mitsu was the rally king....4 titles in a row, and then Suby got a couple victories by stealing our driver and all this **** happened and the WRX came and everyone thinks Subuaru is all good now and can kick ***...

EVO WILL REIGN SUPREME.

Purely conjecture at this point, but people that have driven both seem to think that the Evo handles a little better and the Sti is faster. Other than that, until there are head to head public tests, everything is purely specs on paper at this point.

the MOST unbiased in-depth technical review ever written ... j/k

do a search ... the sti/evo debate has been beat into the ground here over and over again ... let's just leave it at this .. in the hands of the right driver either car can beat the other (i think)..... both are just great cars and we should feel lucky to have both in the US now

From what it sounds like to me, it will come down to personal preference and driving style.

it's a novel effort ... but you can't always get what you want ... if you sifted through the million posts you could compile a list of a few that are actually unbiased ... even if you ask for unpartial views this thread WILL get filled with crap ones

I have descided on the Sti personally. Everyone that is buying the sti is doing it for a veriety of reasons. And we are pretty pig headed about things. The same goes for the evo owners. If you ask an evo owner about the sti engine they will say its weak etc and that the evo engine has been around for like 12 years. Well to me that may mean proven, but it also means old technology.

In the sti you get :
1. a specifically reinforced Semi closed block
2. Forged Alluminum alloy pistons
3. Forged high-carbon steel connecting Rods.
4. Sodium filled exhaust valves.
5. AVCS (active vavle system for low end grunt)
6. 2.5!!! no replacement for displacement.

Doesn't sound weak to me.

Max boost also comes at a really low rpm.

With only 14.5 max boost it leaves you with alot of head room.
That is a far cry from the early claims on this board about the sti being maxed out. At 8.2:1 compression it is not even close.

Also the sti comes with no cat in its up-pipe.

Either way. Most people are passionate about their cars. I give the evo credit for the car it is. But I find it hard to believe it is going to be sooo much better than the sti.

I don't think you will get an unbiased opinion from a forum like this. Everyone has one that they prefer and they choose to defend it in thier posts. Heres my "unbiased" opinion:

I chose the STI for the following reasons:
If price is close to the rumored $30,995 STI offers way more for the money. 6-spd tranny (proven/strong STI tranny used for years), DCCD (driver controlled center diff), better front/rear diffs than EVO, Forged pistons to the EVOs cast ones, less boost, nicer interior, (I've sat in both), 30+hp over EVO.

And dont say that the EVO will easily have more hp than the STI with a few mods, because then the STI owner wil stil have a warranty and you won't. You cant compare modded and stock cars, isn't fair. Those are my reasons for choosing an STI, if anyone would like to argue them feel free I'd love to see why I've made the wrong decision.

Also, even though your EVOs turbo can handle 20-22psi, I dont think those cast pistons can handle anything over stock on pump gas, just a thought.
