The new Honda Fit

Hi all,
I am in the market of a second car, since i will be needing some cargo space and lower my MPG on a daily driven basis.
The new Fit's look and functionality catches me. However, it is new to the market and I have tried a few dealerships who won't sell me the car under MSRP.
It is so ridiculous that all of them are trying to sell me the car over $16000 + taxes and fees!!!
This is San Francisco bay area, people are crazy, some of them will pay more than $25000 for a Civic Si!!!
What I need is your advice, which is wiser?
Look for another car? Mazda5 or 3, WRX Wagon, etc....
Wait for a few month and try again?

I can't believe Honda is selling their Fit like selling a expensive MINI or BMW.... really can't stand this....

Thanks for any inputs!

You mean raise your MPG? heh heh heh

Just wait awhile until the frenzy dies down or try other dealerships. I'm sure there's plenty of Honda dealerships in your area. You might have to drive further but you'll save a few bucks. Negotiate over email/internet.

I suggest looking at the 2006 Kia Rio wagon and the 2007 Toyota Yaris hatchback. How do you rank the factors for what you want in this car? (Price, MPG, cargo space, quality, comfort)

and i know hp won't be the reason for buying either car, but doesn't the yaris have extremely low hp?

from what i've heard, the fit is supposed to be a nice little package, with surprisingly nimble handling and an above average interior (for the price class).

all in all though, you're talking about toyota and honda. i don't think you can really go wrong with either one.

i was wrong. the yaris and fit have just about the same hp (honda edges it out by 3 though).

here's a side by side comparison.

i think the yaris looks better.

What about a Scion? An XA is like the same thing as a fit, and XB's look awesome, and still are cool to mod. If your asian i would say you're making a huge mistake not getting the XB.

Also a better option then the Suby wagon would be a Saab wagon, they look amazing and have the exact same engine. But if you go this route i'm sure you'll get stuck modding again..

If i were you, i would completly rule out the FIT as an option at this point.

The Yaris is 178 lbs lighter than the Fit and edges it in the critical area of lb/hp, 21.63 vs. 22.67. Outrageous performance!

I have test driven the Sport model. This little puppy can really handle well! It's so tossable. There is so much space availible in the vehicle, it's rediculous. Here is another thought, look at a new civic LX. it's about 1,800 more but it's an incredible car. The fit and finish of both vehicles were nothing short of impressive. Plus the auto civic has a higher MPG rating than the manual fit (40 vs. 38).

We had a xB before going to a Prius for the wife, and that thing rocked... The problem is the MPG. I believe it's like 32/38 for the Fit and 30/34 for the xB. We averaged around 30 w/ 18' rims... The back seats in the xB are incredible. You can have the front seats pushed all the way back, and the people in back will find no lack of foot room. In fact, my friend who is 6' 2" sits back there no problem...

i am mainly looking for MPG and CARGO space, not just roomy, it has to be minimum CARGO.
I can't go with Yaris, it's way too small.
Can't do the xB, it doesn't give me the right feel, handling and acceleration.
I had a WRX wagon, it did the job right as far as the cargo space.
The Fit's performance is acceptable for $15000 with it's intelligent seat configurations which is the main convenience point here, in my opinion.
why does an asian guy has to drive a Scion? i don't get it.
I have checked the Mazda5, it looks pretty cool.
The new WRX wagon is kinda pricey for me at this point and this AWD system is going to cost me on gasoline.....
Any other suggestion?
There is a dealer offer me just MSRP... should I take it?
Thanks again for all your inputs!
